What is your experience with the Search function on this board? |
|
I don't seem to be able to pull up a huge thread I was in a week or two ago on the topic of how people acquire their beliefs about God from their parents. I've searched it every way I can think of and I'm not a novice. What gives?

1. Did you do the advanced search? |
|
It's probably archived by now, if it was in GD.
I find Search can be difficult when I want something specific, but if it's a general thing then not so bad.

I'm responding to a request for material on Faith from our newspaper.
I don't understand; I searched my name, patrice, as author, in Religion/Theology, with parents in the subject of the OP . . . ?
I have no idea what I was doing wrong and I Hate that!

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=214&topic_id=86320The tricky part is knowing the right Discussion group, that's the problem I always have. Edit: Finder beat me to it...I blame it on my just waking up!!

8. you can search all the big forums by choosing |
|
"Big Forums (Conference)" at the top of the pull down list
makes it easier if you know it's one of the big forums and it breaks the results down by forum for you

I didn't even realize that was actually a choice.

5. the only real luck is when I search on my user name |
|
I don't know why but I have trouble, like say I post a thread like: polar stands on melting ice about global warming, then I look for it and put that in subject well, no go, but after I pull it up with my name, there is the subject just as I typed it plain as day.
do an advanced search with your name, put the forum and make if for the last month
works for me

7. If you start a journal page, you can keep them there. |
|
If you write an important one, click on "add to my journal" and then you'll always be able to access it.

9. It could have been pulled because it was too infammatory. |
|
Then the search function will not bring it up. Since it was on religion, usually a heated subject, that's probably what happened

11. Yes.. I waste tons of time looking for stuff..We used to be able |
|
to "re-order" by clicking on the author or subject or date (top of the columns) and search the archives that way, so if you knew one of those things you were good to go.. it still works for new threads, but archive searching is hard as hell without it..
It was also a great way to discover neat threads you missed out on (even though you could not respond)..
I hope that someday they can re-activate this feature :)
