ABC World News passes Couric & wins in Chicago
ABC World News passes Couric & wins in Chigaco.

Couric - 6.4/13 share (down from 9.1/17 1st nite and 7.0/14 Wed.

ABC and NBC - 5.3/11 on Thurs.

Couric was 4.7/10 in NYC

Boy, she is falling fast. Way faster than I thought would happen.

15. I was gonna switch to ABC, but not if ABC keeps that docucrap on air
I suppose it'll have to be NBC - at least NBC tries to show some fair & balance with Keith Olberman's primetime show on MSNBC

16. If she had just stayed with a serious "News" show she might
have had a chance. But trying to turn the CBS Nightly News into an Entertainment Tonite show was just plain stupid.

I think the bosses at CBS are the really stupid ones - just one huge mistep after another.

19. Gibson
did ask * some questions * would rather not have been asked during the interview on AF1 that aired Thursday night. He got no answers, of course.

I liked Bob Schieffer a lot. He was a funny guy. I'm going to miss him.

21. Me too.
I blocked ABC with my remote yesterday and won't watch Kiss-Ass Katie. That means Brian Williams wins by default. (I rarely watch news at that time though.)

6. Do you know about what there numbers were before Coric. She will come dow
down to whatever that number was. The ONLY reason people watched the first day was to see the new kid on the block - then they went on about their business as usual.

As long as she can keep up with the old numbers, they will keep her. If she falls behind - she is history.

7. I think CBS was in 3rd place
but Bob Schieffer had really helped their ratings a lot. They weren't very far behind the other two News Shows.

9. Do you like Katie?
I have a bet on with a friend that she will bomb. My friend likes her and thinks she will do OK.

But I'm not a fair judge because I have never been a Couric fan. She does have followers that think she is wonderful.

13. Bwahaha!
I love it! The message is being sent loud and clear: "We don't want to hear your GOP bullshit Katie!"

Meanwhile, she probably thinks the problem is her hair or clothes. :eyes: Instead of the truth that we aren't gonna put up with lies and propaganda! I hope she gets what she deserves-FIRED! :puke:

Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 09:53 AM by Benhurst
Granted The CBS Evening News With Katie Couric does not have the depth of some news programs. And it's scope is rather limited.

But having watched her program twice now, I can see what she is trying to accomplish. But I'm afraid they need a younger hostess, a lot more cleavage and little more leg to achieve Katie's vision for CBS NEWS.

It's not easy to be another Entertainment Tonight, especially when your hostess has passed perky and is approaching frumpy.

Edited on Fri Sep-08-06 09:52 AM by leftyladyfrommo
I tried to watch and be fair. But the nite I watched that show was just terrible.

And I have always watched CBS News - for years and years.

20. Sorry, leftyladyfrommo, for having revised my post while you
were responding to it.

It's sad the first woman to be given the sole anchor post (she seems to prefer the title "host," which is telling in and of itself) for a network news program is not a serious reporter.

I, too, have always watched CBS News; but I won't be doing so anymore.

22. I don't think she even got a fair break.
Someone should have had better sense. They needed to put a really good woman newsperson in that position.

I don't think Katie ever even had a chance.

25. I think they chose Couric for what she had become-- a "perky
personality."

A serious female reporter for the anchor of CBS News was the last thing the current management of CBS wanted. Edward R. Murrow was nightmare enough in his day, can you imagine the problems they would have had trying muzzle a competent, popular woman who was doing her job, taking on the Bush Crime Family and actually reporting the news to the American public?
