9. Yeah, the Republicans spending massive money and time on Clinton's
penis instead of issues that they actually SHOULD HAVE BEEN CONCERNED WITH. They are sick. Like Political Peeping Toms.

Blech.

Frankly, it's not Clinton's fault if the Republicans couldn't keep their hands out his pants.

10. Because I want to be able to speak intelligently about why I don't feel
it should even be on TV. So many people have said, "But you haven't even seen it...how do you know it's bad?" I even had a fight with my damn best friend about it last night because she thought my feelings about it weren't fair because I hadn't seen it yet. I want to know what the damn enemy is up to. God Dammit. I come to this board for support, but I don't get any around here. Who are you damn people? Thanks a hell of a lot for absolutely nothing but something more to feel terrible about. Fuck anybody who thinks we are going to do any good sticking our damn heads in the sand.

17. It seems you have a lot of anger about this and I wonder if you are
directing that toward me. I'm angry too. We all are. We all know this is a piece of shit being shoved in our faces. So therefore, I don't really need snide comments from a discussion board where I thought we were all in this together. You know, some times it's just better not to say anything at all if it isn't supportive. My original post showed a clearly frustrated person. It would have been really nice if I could have maybe had a laugh about it or something. If you read my response to CatWoman, you'd know I had a bad discussion about the movie with a person I really care about and they questioned my opinion of the movie without having seen it. This person is my best friend. I don't want to have to avoid discussions with her the way I have to with my family and coworkers. So I watched it so I could see for myself what it was that was wrong with it so I could have a reasonable discussion about it with people who want to discuss it.

As ABC was probably editing the thing up until the end, who knew WHAT it would be like? I wanted to know. Is that okay with you? Because it seems as if some think I should check with them before I make any decisions. Is that what you think I should do? I had written tons of letters and signed 2 petitions hoping to do my small part to get this thing stopped or cleaned up. It mattered to me that the people could have had some small affect on the final cut of the movie.

Who is this "highly intelligent, trusted" person you speak of that I should have do my thinking for me? Richard Clark? Bill Clinton? Will Pitt? Of course I trust them on these issues. They are some of my heroes. But I can't commit to memory everything they say and write about the situation. I remember some of the issues very well. But none of us saw what ABC would air BEFORE they aired it. Unless Clark and Clinton were in the editing room up until the last minute. And I sincerely doubt they were.

Besides hanging out at DU, which I do about 5 hours total per week these days, I do have a life. And in that life, I have come to trust myself and the way I deal with things. 43 years. I've seen a lot. And I don't remember ever thinking someone else should be like me. Do what I do. We all do it our own way. Realizing that is what makes me a progressive, I feel.

It's so easy to sit at a keyboard and type jiffy little replies that make others feel bad or misunderstood. And which Democrats do you know who could possibly need more of that these days?. If that isn't what you were doing, then just let me know and I'll say I am sorry I misunderstood you. But if that IS what you were doing, I'd like to ask you if you can defend yourself above and beyond just the first thing that crosses your mind.

That was just too precious...shots of the ultimate American phallic symbol interspersed with the famous Clinton finger-wagging moment and fuzzy glimpses of Monica Lewinsky walking around. Hey guys, don't forget that the Washington Monument is based upon Egyptian obelisks. Must be another Middle Eastern plot from way back, maybe an Illuminati thing or something. Too funny.

22. even the NYT retracted that lie
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 02:06 PM by AtomicKitten
from ThinkProgess http://thinkprogress.org/page/2/

New York Times corrects the record. Remember this post? http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/07/nyt-lewinsky/ Looks like someone was listening: “The TV Watch column in Weekend yesterday, about the ABC mini-series The Path to 9/11, referred incorrectly to a conclusion of the commission that investigated the terror attacks. The commission said the accusation that President Clinton had ordered air strikes against Osama bin Laden in August 1998 to distract attention from the Monica Lewinsky scandal was one of several factors that ‘likely had a cumulative effect on future decisions about the use of force’ against Mr. bin Laden. It did not conclude that the scandal distracted the Clinton administration from the terrorist threat.” September 9, 2006 11:25 pm

24. Thank you for posting that. I'd like to clarify something for anyone
responding to my OP.

It is not that I don't understand the way these devils work. It's that they continue to amaze me at how ridiculous they can be. Can you see how those 2 things can exist in one person's mind? I know how they are. I keep up with their shit to excess. I just can't believe it keeps coming. Perhaps my amazement comes from my refusal to become a total cynic. I just keep having hope that someone will at least have a little taste, y'know? It's just that the Monica excuse is just so incredibly stupid. It's such an obvious dumb ass way of defending themselves. Hell, if they are going to own the media, and spout all the lies they want, why don't they make up a good one?

I suppose I expected the people here to get that. It was the obvious thing to do. To bring up the damn blow job like somehow that is the worst thing anyone ever did. And I know their supporters: the duped, the ignorant; they DO think sex is evil and killing Muslims is our god given right. It just continues to amaze me that there are so many people like that in our country. And they're all around me. Everyday. It's the way I avoid blowing my own damn head off....to keep a little hope that they'll get better and be real. :-(

27. well, it's a convenient lie
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 07:21 PM by AtomicKitten
one that was carefully crafted by the wingnuts enabled by the ever-compliant media. And it rings false in the face of the same people belly-aching about Monica at the same time screaming "wag the dog" when Clinton demonstrated he, in fact, was not distracted by the GOP jihad raged against him in the 1990s.

I believe the wingnuts' fake outrage has been exposed to thinking America. It's crazy-making indeed to coexist with people who kowtow to the repetitive lies perpetrated by the wingnuts, but that's when we most need to reach down and tune in to truth and reality because, and I too am an annoying optimist , I believe that truth and decency will prevail in the end.

33. a couple explanations
Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 07:56 PM by AtomicKitten
from http://www.wordorigins.org/wordorw.htm
Etymology and word origins.

Wag the Dog

The phrase "the tail that wags the dog" dates to the turn of the century. In 1907, it appeared in Von Arnum's Fraulein Schmidt. F. Scott Fitzgerald used it in 1935. The meaning is quite obvious, the subsidiary part is controlling the major part. In its most current usage, the case is of the media creating the crisis instead of the crisis generating media interest.

***************************

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wag_the_Dog

"Why does a dog wag its tail? Because a dog is smarter than its tail.

If the tail was smarter, the tail would wag the dog." Interpretations differ as to the meaning of this metaphor. Some suggest the dog is public opinion, and the tail represents the media; the dog is the media, and the tail is political campaigns; or the dog is the people, and the tail is the government.

Moreover, the expression "the tail wagging the dog" refers to any case where something of greater significance (such as a war) is driven by something lesser (such as a sex scandal).

23. *sigh* Have the Dems learned nothing from Rove?
Look, this whole "Clinton was too busy with worrying about being impeached because of Lewinski" thing is NOT A BAD THING! All it means is that this is all the fault of the Republicans. They were hammering Clinton so hard because of a personal problem that it got in the way of his effectively doing his job as President. Roves tactics are all based on "take your weaknesses and present them as strengths" well if the Repukes want to claim that Lewinski was Clintons weakness, let them. That just means that the whole goddam thing is their fault...

I think a better question is to ask you what YOUR problem is? Mine is explained very clearly here. Read. Or do you treat reading this thread the same way you inform yourself about the events around you...as in a certain propaganda act that is being staged at a crucial time? Remember? There are elections in several states tomorrow. Delaware, DC, Maryland, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, Vermont, Wisconsin. We have an uninformed at best, brainwashed at worst ELECTORATE! In addition to illegal polling practices. Propaganda matters. I'd like to be able to speak intelligently about these issues to people who don't get it yet. It is important to be informed. That's what I think this board is all about. You responded in a very nasty way to the OP. My OP. THAT is my NEW problem.
