If you work in/own a business that makes its money from tourism, |
restaurant in a resort area, bed and breakfast, motel, whatever, did high gas prices over the summer hurt your income/tips?

1. No, we were actually ahead of last year by almost 20% - high gas prices |
meant higher airline prices, it looks like many people stayed closer to home but still found ways to getaway. Pretty much everyone in town had similar results, I'm on the Tourism Development committee as well and we track occupancy every week to compare it to other time frames or evaluate certain ads.

2. My business has a large boost during tourist season |
We had a good summer not great, but good. We weren't hurt too badly by gas prices since more families stayed closer to home and had shorter vacations rather than the usual 1-2 weeks further from home. For many this meant a long weekend trip to the lake which kept our numbers up.

3. Exact same thing here -- no noticeable drop in business |
Any drops in one market segment were made up for by increases in another.
