Ok the number of people listed doing this nationally, 117,600,is WAY low but that's acknowledged in the article.

Either way it's nice to see a reletively sympathetic article like this on Yahoo.

It brings up how often they get cheated on pay, the injuries, and the over-all crappy pay.

they are still desperate to take the chances for these jobs makes me admire them. I personally think they should pressure the patrones in their native land to effect change. They do know how to use a machete, but they don't. They would rather work hard and prove themselves.

2. way back when I was in Austin my boss would hire day laborers

if we needed some physical labor like when we moved our offsites we would go get a couple guys, negotiate a FAIR wage and we would also buy them lunch. They were nice people, did a good job, didn't complain. It's terrible that people take advantage of them.
