Sean Penn on Larry King, plugging
his new movie (it looks great, and just check out this cast! http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/allthekingsmen/ )

and discussing politics, Katrina, the death of his brother. Pretty compelling, but
I'm a big fan.

His birthday is 2 days after mine.

3. The trailer I saw earlier this summer
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 08:35 PM by Pithy Cherub
is amazing. The book All The King's Men by Robert Penn Warren is one of the best books ever on the corruption of the soul in poltics. It is just beautifully written, hence the Pulitzer Prize. Sean Penn looks like he gave an amazing acting performance.

6. His new film is a remake of a great 1949 film starring Broderick Crawford
and directed by Robert Rossen (who also wrote and directed "The Hustler"). The film won a Best Picture Oscar and an Oscar for Crawford's remarkable performance.

13. And...
The screenplay of the new version was written by a former student of the novelist, Robert Penn Warren. This is the biggest movie I have looked forward to all year. :-)

7. What he just said about not voting for any Dem who doesn't have a plan...
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 08:49 PM by Fridays Child
...to get out of Iraq troubles me. Maybe there are some Dems like that but it's my understanding that the lion's share of our Democratic representatives support the Murtha plan or some variation thereof. And I'm afraid that Sean, like so many other well-intentioned activists and voters fail to realize that the corporate media control the message, i. e. the Republican mantra that the Dems have no plan.

Sean, we have a plan, friend. Don't buy the lie!

On the other hand, if by his comment, Sean means Lieberman and his ilk, then call them out by name. Otherwise, it sounds like he's fallen for the Republican meme.

9. I think he meant just what he said:
"No Democrat who does not support withdrawal from Iraq should be elected in November"

I have to agree with him; I do think he was referring to Lieberman et al, and he surely hasn't fallen
for any repug meme.

10. Hope you're right.
I guess I just see so damn much of it from our side that I get very skittish.

11. He has put his money behind his words
and his days, and his thoughts, his words and his energy.

I have no doubt he is very sincere.

16. It's pretty pathetic
Edited on Thu Sep-14-06 09:51 PM by AtomicKitten
when one of those "Hollywood lefties" has a better grasp on world affairs than our leaders. But that is symptomatic of an anti-intellectualism bent that has infected this country. Still my RW Faux News lovin' mother acknowledges Penn is a wonderful actor, and that's quite a concession from a member of a party steeped in hate and ignorance.
