Jim Webb is destroying George Allen on MTP |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 09:20 AM by FLDem5
Allen looks like a primping lackey for this administration.
Webb has facts, dates, data of all sorts on hand.
Allen has "ideas" and "democracy" and "keeping us safe" and nothing else.
Allen seems like someone who knows NOTHING about the military, and is told only what they feel he needs to know. Webb had boatloads of credibility. This was an embarassing mistake for Allen.
Go Webb. Virginia is going to be a blue-ish shade of purple.
Damn.

brought to you by the Bush Administration.
I think MTP is airing/playing in all time zones and markets today, I look forward to more live blogging, thoughts and cheers from the DU community today.
As today, Jim Webb did the Democrats proud, and without no stinking politician talking points.
Donate to Jim in my linky, even $5 inspires him :hi:

Webb made it pretty clear that what he wrote and said in 1979 is different from what he now says and believes. He also explained well the context of the remarks.
I would FAR prefer someone own what they said long ago and then point out that they have matured and evolved than try to either deny it, brush it off, or continue to defend it.

|
he came from a football family! And went on about how football taught him that everyone was equal because he learned to value the contributions of everyone to the team, no matter what color.
That's what I thought was hilarious. He never actually explained how the noose tied in to all this (pardon the pun). Or why a guy who believed in people's equality would keep a noose in his office.
And if it's a gift as he claims it is...well, isn't he a little ashamed of accepting a gift he has never actually used?

Oh. My. God. I never could have imagined he could be as vacuous and dumb as he came across. I've always said he is the stupidest person in the Senate, but WOW! Jim Webb used him like a human mop - just like they do at Gitmo (see Rolling Stone story). Of course, I deplore torture, but maybe it's not so bad for those who advocate for the practice to get a little real life experience.

to chewing tobacco. "Oh, but I never do it in public!"
OK, it is their private business if that's what they choose to do. But when one of them quoted Mark Twain about trying to correct other people's vices, and they both laughed heartily, I just sat there and thought, "OK, guys, laugh it up while you can. Someday you may have no jaws, mouth or tongue to laugh it up with--so by all means, laugh today!"

86. Sounds like what I'd call competition for the rural vote. IIRC, Virginia |

has or had almost 70 counties, where who knows what kind of election chicanery takes place.

91. This answer right here i thought was beyond pathetic- |
|
MR. RUSSERT: Before I let Mr. Webb respond, did you say to Jim Webb you were voting for the war so as to not be disloyal to President Bush?
SEN. ALLEN: I was supporting our efforts of our administration. It was bipartisan support for this resolution, because I thought we needed to show unity of resolve so that Saddam Hussein, it was my hope, would see how resolved, how unified the United States was, as well as the United Nations, and would actually comply with the weapons inspections.
MR. RUSSERT: The, the concern being if in fact you cast that vote out of loyalty to President Bush...
SEN. ALLEN: No, it’s loyalty to this country, and making sure that our country is unified in, in this, in this effort to disarm Saddam Hussein. That was the point.
So essentially what he's saying is that he voted for the war in Iraq to take the temperature of american unity. If that answer alone doesn't sink him than nothing will, imo Allen cemented himself today as a Bush yes man, a typical rubber stamp republican. Allen is a total amateur.
