What Do Our Soldiers Think? |
|
After 9/11 I wanted to join to service to kick some ass. Couldn't, but wanted to. But if I did and BushCo did the bait and switch to Iraq, I'd be really pissed. Those who were already in the service didn't have much choice, and those who joined after shortly after 9/11 thought they would be fighting whoever destroyed the Twin Towers.
But now? How can anyone join now knowing that Bush suckered the whole county? How can anyone trust him enough with their life? How can he be worth dying for?
Sure, I understand the country is bigger than BushCo and that they fight once there for the sake of each other, but I still don't quite get it. How can BushCo's war be a war worth fighting and dying for when he basically tells all of us we are stupid and worthless compared to his Master Plan?
This is a serious question and it's been tormenting me. Maybe some of you have an answer.

It was more understandable then. BushCo managed to deceive until after his election. What about now?

There was a recent one about GI's believing they were in Iraq because of 9-11. I'll try to find it.

That would make sense. Or maybe they can't say what they really think.
Wasn't being lazy, really, just wanted to hear from people what they think.

But like you say, we do it for each other. I've said it before, if they weren't paying us extra money while we're there (400 or more extra a month tax free, subsistence, etc) there would be more pissed off military folk. Many of us know the truth and are waiting for the retribution to happen to those who did this. I have 19 years in. It would break my heart if my daughter ever said she wanted to join. I was young and full of ideals....once! This is all corporate BS! Watch "Why we Fight". "Ike" was right! :patriot:

I suspect if you're at DU, you're probably still full of some ideals--the best kind are the ideals that've been road tested.
And yes, Ike was a great American.
