George Bush doesn't like to shake hands with Black people |
|
Obama also recalls the run-up to his Senate campaign, when an adviser lamented that it was too late for Obama to acquire “a nickname or something” other than “Barack,” and marching in Chicago’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade “in the very last slot … just a few paces ahead of the sanitation trucks.”
On his first meeting at the White House, he remembers shaking the hand of the president, who turned to “an aide nearby, who squirted a big dollop of hand sanitizer in the president’s hand.”
“Not wanting to seem unhygienic,” the senator writes, he also “took a squirt.”http://www.examiner.com/a-295568~Yeas_and_Nays__Tuesday__Sept__19.html

just like most of the houses in New Orleans. You remember, the ones that flooded, in large part, because the Army Corpse (sic) of Engineers failed to maintain the levees and floodwalls? Meanwhile, a significant portion of the ACoE budget was shifted into -- guess what? -- Bush**'s colossal misadventure in Iraq. :grr:

that George W. Bush wasted his early adult years, and didn't learn anything. That's just not true. It was the one that highlighted film of what happened to Duane Bobick after he shook hands with Kenny Norten. One can never be too safe.

The indignities large and small this pile of shit masquerading as a human being must visit on those around him. But I will bet special humiliations, like rubbing bald heads is reserved for Blacks only. Maybe Jews, too.
Whenever, and it is rare, we can see glimpses of the members of the Imperial Family acting like themselves, whether it be the vile mother, Poppy Augustus, or Tiberius our current Chimperor, their contempt and disgust for average people, really everyone not them, is quite open.
This is just ne more tiny crack in which their personal vileness shines through.
And to THINK someone like Obama, who unless he is in complete denial (which he might be, he chose Lieberman as his mentor), knows what is being done and even winds up having to "ask for a squirt".
The disgusting humiliation of it all. It's quite obvious.

Don't insult perfectly good Roman emperors like that! Augustus was a very well-regarded ruler, and Tiberius, despite his reputation, was actually a very effective administrator. Honestly, I happen to be very interested in the Emperor Tiberius as a lover of Imperial Rome, and find that he was much maligned. To compare him to Bush is just unfair! Tiberius went off the deep end after a.) years of neglect and mistreatment from his cold-hearted mother b.) being completely ignored by his step-father (Augustus didn't like Tiberius very much) c.) the deaths of his father and his brother c.) being forced to divorce his wife (whom he loved) and to marry Augustus' (slutty) daughter d.) having his (likely) plans to retire from the throne thrawted when his most likely heir was murdered by one of his own close friends e.) having his own son (and second choice for heir) murdered by the only person in the world that he truly trusted, who spent years poisoning his mind with lies and paranoia. Enough to make anyone raving mad. Anyway, Bush is just a sick depraved despot. Tiberius was a good ruler whose mind became warped. Bush is more of a Nero. A spoiled, bratty and vain snob who delights in violence and unrestrained mayhem, and attained power through the machinations of others, since a loathsome little slime like him would've never become emperor otherwise! Phew. Okay. That was pointless. =P

Clinton doesn't turn around and get a squirt of sanitizer every time he shakes hands. This is something that is done discreetly. When you're standing with a handful of people in the oval office, you do NOT grab for the sanitizer as soon as you shake hands. Unless, of course, you have some kind of hangup about the particular person with whom you just shook hands.
So, yeah, I fucking love it when people on DU make excuses for Bush because it shows how completely full of shit they are.

C'mon....most people I work with keep that stuff handy and use it all day - regardless of who is in the room. Many people ( I am not one) are terrified of germs and such.
Has there been any other anecdotal evidence that Bush only does this when he shakes hands with Black People?
There is plenty of evidence that Bush is an idiot and many other things, but this is another petty shot that makes all the good things we say sort of cheap.
Please....use the race card when necessary...but I cannot see how this counts.

Byrd (former Grand Kleagle Klansman from WVA) advising Obama against getting in a rush to get to the WhiteHouse.
Bush putting sanitizer on his hand seems rather tame compared to a Klansman (resigned or not - show me a racist at 40 and I will show you a racist at 80) telling a young black man to temper his ambitions.
Want to throw around racist accusations? No need to look further than Byrd.

Because we accuse Bush of being a racist for using hand sanitizer or that we overlook a former klansman telling a young black man that he (the white guy) knows what is best?
One is obviously racist...the other is simply supposition without supporting evidence other than the use of hand sanitizer.
I am just asking the we be consistant. If the Byrd statement was not in the article, I would not have brought it up. However, it was the main point of the article - the Bush issue was a two sentence sidebar.

Byrd can not change the past. But we should not be handcuffed into being focused on a person's past. If I mention Minister Malcolm X, and someone says, "Why, Malcolm was just a peddler of drugs and women's flesh," I would hope that you would agree that person misses the most important thing about Malcolm: that he illustrated the idea of human redemption, and the power that we all have to change.
Byrd was indeed a foul racist, just as Malcolm was a foul hoodlum. Both changed for the better.
The serious issues that DUers share regarding George W. Bush are not about who he was in the past. They are about exactly who he is today. You may not believe the OP is evidence that he is a racist, and that in and of itself would be a reasonable point to raise, without the bit about Byrd. I would, however, mention that I know two people -- both very good judges of character -- who have had dealings with Bush that convinced them he was indeed a racist. That does not mean he is in the mold of a Ku Klux Klan conehead. Nor does it mean that he "hates" all black folk. But he has some curious behaviors. If you have read, for example, Bob Woodward's books on Bush, you would be familiar with his refusal to meet with Colin Powell unless Condi Rice was present. Odd. He met with other high-ranking administration officials alone, but not Colin. What's that all about? And what is it that Colin and Condi have in common, that would make George seek to have her in the room with him?

I must confess to not knowing much about Malcolm X., other than he was a sharp dresser and was killed in Harlem. I was not aware that he was a troubled youth - but I figure we all were a little trouble. If not, you weren't trying enough. I tried my ass off...lol.
However, I still think this is a petty issue with little concrete evidence. Who knows the true mind of anyone? You can share a bed with someone for years and still not know them and what is in their heart.
Anyway...I have rarely dealt with any white man from that generation (North or South) that is not slightly racist - however benign it may be.

58. I hear that argument often |
|
Whenever someone on the left points out racists on the right, the right inevitably plays the 'but Robert Byrd' card....
I've seen Hannity play that card to death.
Prop up that strawman!

|
past, and BEHAVING in ways that have MADE AMENDS for that past have no merit, right?!

That man needs to be impeached. Maybe we need to come up with a catch phrase that is super catchy and keep repeating it until it happens. That seems to be working for the other side. We need to do something, else suffer with that oaf for 2 more years.
