Today my 12th grade daughter heard lecture by GOP county chief |
|
It was a guest lecturer in her senior social studies class, the head of the Westchester County (NY)Republican Party (Minority, btw.) Tim Hays.
Some really great highlights:
"There are very very bad people in Iraq. We call them insurgents. The only true solution is to kill them all." (Emphasis on all.)
"We invaded Iraq so all the bad people would congregate there and we could go kill them."
"We invaded Iraq instead of Korea because it was easier."
"WMD are still out there somewhere and we have to keep looking."
When asked how we knew the WMD's were aimed at us, he said, "Call it a hunch."
When the kids told him all Hussein had was mustard gas, he said, "You'd be surprised how uncomfortable mustard gas can make you feel."
"We'll stay in Iraq a couple of more years."
"Saudi Arabia doesn't support Al Qaeida, but Hussein was suspected of meeting with Al Qaida leaders."
"Whatever we do with our captives is right, because we're the US and we have such strong morality."
"You should read opinion papers so you can come to your own conclusions."
The 12th graders tore his smarmy little wings off one at a time. They massacred him. They were furious, and kept up the argument when the bell rang.
My kid asked, "If we're dedicated to killing all the insurgents, how does that make us different from them?"
The lemming never had a chance. These are really sharp kids.

2. Good to see the class is so informed . . . |
|
. . . especially considering that, from the implied tone here, he seemed to think they were total children, if not morons. This really gives me hope.

Then, contact your local school board and rip somebody a new one. It is unconscionable to allow a purely political operative to address a captive audience.

4. So right-wingers are allowed to campaign for the party in schools |
|
under the guise of being "guest lecturers" now? That's just disgusting. I'm glad the kids aren't as stupid as the GOP thinks they are.

10. Last week it was the dems, and it made sense. |
|
The teacher does this all the time, and the kids are thoroughly liberal, not to worry.
They were astounded at the guy's limited understanding of the world.
Brainwashed people should expect as much from teenagers. They can smell BS a mile away.
They flattened him. Don't worry. No converts this time.

11. So is the school system going to let a Dem lecture as well? |
|
Fair is fair, and schools are publicly funded. You should call and let them know that the Democratic Chairperson should be able to "lecture" as well. Congrats to the young people for questioning that guy.

12. So you're saying it was basically a fun day in class |
|
You know, kind of a game: throw the Repuke in the lions' den and stand back.
Normally I'd say bringing only one party's representative into the classroom is a very bad thing. But when the idea is to let a Republican get torn apart, it's kinda sweet.

Having met a certifiable Bushbot, it will be amusing next year when she's at college and the first right-wing evangelical tells her she's going to hell.
I remember my first time. Ahhh, the memories.

She has a quality that Kerry never had; she was willing to stand up to a superior force (adults are very scary to teenagers) and speak truth to power and not back down.

33. Its easier because they don't have to actually do anything |
|
they wanted to send troops in, we were positioned to do so, and selling it was much easier.
Plus, we knew Iraq had no WMD.
Basically, you have to realize that Iraq was easy, and still is easy, for BushCo.
They aren't risking anything, their biggest contributors are making record profits, they haven't had to ask the rich to sacrifice anything, the media isn't forcing them to make tough choices or take any kind of stand, and Bush gets to play War President.
So what if soldiers and innocent Iraqis are dying? Its not like BushCo gives a fuck.

Insurgent:
Etymology: Latin insurgent-, insurgens, present participle of insurgere to rise up, from in- + surgere to rise.
1 : a person who revolts against civil authority or an established government; especially : a rebel not recognized as a belligerent 2 : one who acts contrary to the policies and decisions of one's own political party
Iraqis did not rebel against civil authority but a foreign invader that removed the existing government and installed a non-elected imperial consul in its place.
Bremer's official title was Consul of the Iraqi (sic) Provisional Authority.
The Provisional government representatives were chosen by the US. The names of the candidates in the first 'election' were kept secret. No Iraqi politician holding office today can claim elected authority by any common sense notion of democratic process.

I went to highschool at the height of the Vietnam war and nobody could have come on campus and spun a similar line about travesty, either.
I can't count how many lies he listed.
We're still looking for Saddam's arsenal? Is he still looking for the Tooth Fairy?
