So Have We Finally Hit Rock Bottom? |
|
This week the leader of a foreign nation stood up in the United Nations and called the President of the United States "the Devil"....and a good majority of the people in the room applauded.
Following that, this same leader said of the President of the United States, "he is an alcoholic and a sick man". The audience of mostly American citizens applauded, because, of course, only the most ill-informed, brainwashed and/or deluded citizens in this country would be able to honestly deny that statement.
Additionally this week, the Congress of the United States made steps to officially acknowledge, and apply their stamp of approval on, policies whereby Americans have been torturing and will continue torture other human beings in order to try and get intelligence information out of them.
A report also has come out that torture is now more prevalent in Iraq than it was during Saddam's reign. Coincidence? I think not.
So, is this it? Have we hit the bottom yet? Sadly, this is just a rhetorical question, because intellectually I know things can and probably will get worse, but in my heart, I'm hoping they don't.

The Unites States, as a nation, is Dead.
Its over. The rotting carcass was beginning to stink too much anyway. Now we can formally bury it. Long live the New Theocracy of America.

3. He got the longest recorded ovation in the history of the |

General Assembly.
Reps Rangel and Pelosi might want to take a look at that, too.

7. Nowhere near the bottom yet, but the slide down keeps gathering more speed |
|
It appears that the downward momentum is unstoppable. It would take massive numbers of people willing to throw their very bodies into the teeth of the gears of the Machine to bring it to a halt.
And here, in the United States of personal comfort uber alles, that just ain't gonna happen.
The Great American Experiment, founded in the principles of the Enlightenment, is dead -- behold the Fourth Reich.
Keep your family's passports current.

Are you upset that Chavez has done more to help Americans than Bush has?

12. Can you at least give him credit for... |
|
calling out Bush for what he is? Somebody needed to, everybody else is too worried about ruffling feathers. Meanwhile people suffer and die.

17. Well then maybe we need to lower our expectations.. |
|
because we have a mentally ill, extremely delusional person who is currently running around acting as the leader of the free world, and everybody pretends that he's okay, either because he's bought them off, or they're afraid of him, or both.
Fuck decorum, this asshole is going to doom us all if he continues to get away with it.

9. Unfortunately, I'm reminded... |
|
of a line from a (fiction) book I read many years ago. Paraphrased:
"No, it just looks like things are bad now. We'll get to the point where we think we've hit bottom and then some bastard's going to come along, hand us shovels and tell us to start digging."
I don't recognize the country I was born in at all...

us and the bottom. Nuclear strikes maybe? That's about all that's left.

18. We still have a ways to go |
|
For instance, many Americans still have access to affordable health care, others still have jobs and a few are wealthy and not burdened down with huge amounts of personal debt.
We also still have Social Security and Medicare, and no one has invaded Iran yet.
The GOP still has a lot of work to do.

23. It can *ALWAYS* get worse. |
|
One version of "worse" might be global thermonuclear war, touched off by Bush's insane Jones to prove hs mojo by attacking Iran.
