"If I wanted to break the law, why would I brief the Congress?"
Bush asked this question in his "speech" yesterday. Good question.

He did not want to break the law - he wanted to skirt the law. And he did not "brief the Congress", he briefed a few select Senators and House Leaders. The rules of the Senate require him to inform the "full committee". He told a few people a few facts and swore them to secrecy. So when he says he briefed Congress, he is not being honest.

He had already asked that the Senate add the language to permit him to spy domestically. As former Minority Leader Tom Daschle has stated in his NYTimes editorial, Bush wanted the language changed at the last minute and they turned him down. Obviously, he did not like their position.

So he decides to skirt the law, pretending to brief the Congress, and then proceeds to do what he knew was illegal. We do not know the extent of the spying and perhaps we never will, but the people deserve to know the truth about how their White House operates.

She addresses that issue quite well.

2. Why is Bush running around spewing his lies on the taxpayer's dime?
That's my question.

Thanks for your excellent de-briefing of Bush's brief of lies.

3. Rockefeller was notified - sent a letter saying that their announcement
was muddled. Asked for clarifications. Got nothing.

My wording. That's what they call advising Congress.

We will probably find out that they advised Pat Roberts, Hatch, and some similar rubber stamping rubber headed nation destroyers.

4. The Specter Committee could request Rockefeller, Roberts, Feinstein, et al
appear before their committee and respond to those questions. Just how much were they told about what was going on? Did they know Bush was spying on Americans?

5. Do you think Rockefeller's life could be endangered. Wasn't he the
only Democrat who received 'something' from the WH? If he is the only one and there is an impeachment proceeding, they would be able to say whtever they want. I hope some precautions are taken if it's true that he was only one in the Dem Prty who received babel.
