Ted Kennedy: "It was one of the darkest days of the times I've seen"
Kennedy answered question on 'Ask Yahoo' about the torture bill.

Well, you're absolutely right in terms of your understanding of what took place on the floor of the United States Senate. I welcomed the opportunity to stand with the thirty-four Democrats, one Republican, on this. Three-quarters of the Democrats opposed the legislation; virtually all the Republicans supported it. We haven't got the votes for the, we didn't have the votes in terms of filibustering that legislation.

snip:
This is, it was a very dark day in the United States Senate yesterday, and I would agree with the observer. I'm disappointed. It was one of the darkest days of the times that I've been in the United States Senate - turning our back on the Constitution.

4. Well, Ted, I love you, I do! No man has ever faced more difficult times,
and come out of it with such amazing resiliance and dedication to the people. But I have to ask: Why did you vote for HAVA? HAVA is WHY this Congress is so bad. These people are not representing the interests of our country; they are not beholden to us any more; they are beholden to the rightwing Bushite corporations who took over our election system, with TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, as the resut of HAVA.

Why lament the inevitable result of yours and all the other Democratic Senators' votes for this democracy-killing legislation? It's HAVA that did it. Not this torture bill, or even giving George Bush war powers. It's WHO is counting the votes, and HOW. Let me just rehearse for you WHO...

DIEBOLD: Until recently, headed by Wally O'Dell, a Bush-Cheney campaign chair and major fundraiser (a Bush "Pioneer," right up there with Ken Lay), who promised in writing to "deliver Ohio's electoral votes to Bush-Cheney in 2004"; and

ES&S: A spinoff of Diebold (similar computer architecture), initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also gave one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation (which touts the death penalty for homosexuals, among other things). Diebold and ES&S have an incestuous relationship; they are run by two brothers, Bob and Todd Urosevich.

These are the people who "counted" 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, under a veil of corporate secrecy--as a result of HAVA.

Also, SEQUOIA: The third major election theft player, which hired Republican Bill Jones, former Calif Secretary of State, and his chief aide, Alfie Charles, to peddle their machines--in an outstanding example of the highly corrupt practice of "revolving door" employment. Jones and Charles brought this election theft technology to California. Now they're peddling it.

-----------------------

THROW DIEBOLD, ES&S AND ALL ELECTION THEFT MACHINES INTO 'BOSTON HARBOR' NOW!

BUST THE MACHINES--VOTE BY ABSENTEE BALLOT THIS NOVEMBER!

If enough people do it--if everybody who despises the Bush Junta (60% to 70% of the American people) votes by AB--the reign of these diabolical machines will be OVER!

8. You know I wish that were true as I plan to but I heard of the absentees
counting wrong as they were scanned into the machines during the recall election so it don't really matter anymore if they use prorietary software to count the votes it easily riggable and has been since the introduction of machines into the counting game..
