I especially love what he says in the last 10 seconds or so about how people get up, go to work, come home, eat dinner, go to bed, get up, go to work etc. There's no dialogue anymore. The only dialogue is between the people on tv.

I rarely have political discussions with anyone (in real life) but my mom is at my house visiting today and tonight I started a political discussion with her starting with election fraud and the machines which then moved on to the corporate-owned media and the on to the torture bill. My mom is a Democrat. She was pretty much clueless about any of this and I could tell she was thinking I must be getting kinda looney or something. She asked if none of this is on the news where do I find out about it and I said the internet and you could see the look in her eyes like, "ahh, the internet. Can't be reliable." I explained the info I get is from credible sources (or at least as credible as anywhere else). Finally, she just said, "well, so what. What are you or I or anyone going to do about any of it. There's nothing we can do." So I said, "so we should just accept it then?? No, if there is NOTHING else we can do the least we can do is educate ourselves about what is happening. Read, listen, pay attention, be informed. Know who and what you are voting for. Spread the word, inform others."

There was more, but my Democrat mom just doesn't really pay attention or care about what is going on. She commented about how "all politicians are crooks" etc. From my vantage point being a stay-at-home mom in a small, rural town in Iowa - this is the attitude I see from most. People are too busy with their lives, trying to get through each day. They just don't have the time or interest or care to become active participants in the discussion. And I can understand that, because up until eight months ago, I was one of those people. Then one day, I just decided I needed to know more about what this president was doing and made the time to start looking into it, found DU, and it has changed me.

And now that I opened Pandora's box it is so frustrating to me that this is the only place I can come to where others share my anger, frustration and simple knowledge about what is going on. I hate that on the rare occasion I have piped up and talked about what I have learned that I get looked at like some lunatic-fringe-conspiracy-theorist who must be gleaning info from wacky, far out sources on the internet who just make shit up and I'm so gullible I buy it all hook line and sinker. :banghead:

Ok, sorry to go off on a rant, but that little vid and my earlier discussion with my mom just got me fuming over my frustration. :rant:

...I am in the same boat with you, I was a political moron up until late last year. Just a clueless about the entire scheme of the politcal world, then came FREE SPEECH TV and after watching that for a couple of days I was PISSED! I am still pissed and instead of being the one getting pissed on all the time I am determined to turn the tide on this fascist assholes that robbed their way to the Hill.

I never liked politics or the people in them, but I reached that point were its no longer OK to just take whats been put in front of you when you know you have a choice and a voice.

have been on KO, Lou Dobbs, Scarzdaleface, and some others as they have been. You might find some MSM links for her to look at and maybe she will see that you're not talking through your hat when you tell her Al Gore Won! and so did Kerry! Vote flipping is serious stuff. Look where it's taken us today.

Unfortunately, my Mom wouldn't have any idea who any of those folks are (hell, before DU, I didn't know who they were, lol. I don't have cable or satellite tv.). She just doesn't pay much attention. And if I sent her a bunch of links, I have no doubt that she would have little to no interest in actually reading them. I could print them off and give them to her and I still doubt she would make the time to read them.

I told her about the Princeton video. I don't think she completely dismissed EVERYTHING I said, but I could tell she was really taking it all with a very large grain of salt. My mom is one of the most skeptical people I know.

I'm not going to give up on it, but it's an uphill battle with her and most of my family.

It's big money exerting it's influence on the flow of info. In the previous generation big $$$ had less of a party-line. More diversity of opinion was allowed... even POVs that were at odds with corporate values.

That's been extinguished. I don't know that they had 'secret meetings' at which this was discussed. It was probably more of an inevitable, evolutionary process. Barely conscious.

Now it's one big Charlie Rose Show.... 'legit' POV's range from the hard right all the way to the far right.
