That is expected and I am sure the Democrats would do the same. What I fault them for and find totally beyond the pale is their allowing it to continue. Politics is hardball and it doesn't surprise me in the least that a cover-up is going on about something almost constantly but a true person of moral Character would have demanded Foley resign immediately and go away "for health reasons" or some such but go away For them to allow him to remain and continue with his abuse is evidence of their condoning the actions. I find this intolerable and demand justification for them to remain in Congress let alone Leadership. If this is in any way a "Christian" Nation as those on the right so loudly claim then by God I want to hear them justify this......Way beyond the Pale......

1. I don't think Democrats would coverup a child molester
An affair between grown adults, probably, but not this

5. Foley was a child molester?
I saw the stuff about the emails, but I didn't see anything about him actually molesting children.

6. Soliciting children for sex on the internet is considered a crime
all on it's own but do you believe it would stop with just solicitation?

7. I'm not saying he's not a criminal,

he's not a dirt bag, or he shouldn't be in jail. I just haven't seen any articles about him molesting children. Since the post I'm replying to seems to be implying that the repukes covered up child molestation, I figured they knew more about this story than I did. I was wondering if anyone has actually accused him of that yet.

10. Looking into it further...
the boy was 16 and not a "child" in most state including DC, Virginia, Maryland and Florida (since I don't know what state the messages were actually sent from ), so I'm not even sure if they can actually charge him with a crime, here unless they can find something else.

2. I am guessing this is why the LA rep went to the chair of the RNCC
the guy who is in charge of the GOP congressional election efforts Rep. Reynolds ... as in - get this guy (Foley) to quietly step down, or at least out of the race, with enough time to get a new candidate and keep the seat. Otherwise there was no reason to go to Rep Reynolds. But Reynolds didn't do that. Nor did the House Leadership.

Personally, I think rather than being concerned enough to find if this was a tip of the iceberg thing... they tried to close their eyes - and considered that the 'overly friendly' emails were just that. They took it at face value because they wanted to take it at face value. It was more important to them to be in denial (and think *no real problem*) rather than to try to find out if there was a bigger problem and whether other pages had been approached and whether current pages were currently at risk. Apparently that was not of any concern to the GOP leadership.

3. Foley used the Pages in Washington as his personal hunting ground
for young meat while repukes turned their backs and ignored it. If Democratic leaders had done this I would be just as angry. Didn't anyone learn anything from the Catholic priest pedophile scandal?

Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 09:20 AM by hlthe2b
fail to report an incident like this to law enforcement.. This is a law, that as I understand it, Foley and Hastart were instrumental in getting passed. So while there is typically a legal technicality that may make members of Congress not able to be prosecuted--as other Federal employees-- under the law (this happens often under separation of powers)--I still don't know how anyone could condone not reporting it.

Say they had gotten FOley to quit-- so what-- he then goes back to his district to continue the behavior on his local "boys?" How is that tolerable?
