TRANSCRIPT:
BILL KRISTOL: ... I think President Bush wants to do the right thing and I think he knows there's a problem. He can't probably do anything until election day. I very much hope after election day he takes a fresh look at Iraq, sends enough troops, surges the...goes on the offensive there and plays for victory because. ...

SMITH: Bill..

KRISTOL: it's just too important to just, you know...

SMITH: It's horrifying that you just said he can't do anything until after the election. We've got men and women over there who are dying every day and you just said that the man who you support can't do anything even though you believe he knows it's wrong.

Shep started off calling this administration's policies horrifying and repulsive and it went downhill from there. By the end of the segment, Shep was holding Bush responsible for any deaths that occur in Iraq between now and the mid-term elections! In so many words! On FOX NEWS! This is Must See TV.

1. Kristol stated mr bush could do nothing
until after the election which enraged Shep. It was an amazing interview.

12. He admits the GOP is playing politics and that the stakes in their
POLITICAL GAME IN IRAQ... are American soldier's lives.

28. Kristol exposes the vile truth of this all-too corrupt cabal.
Bodies of our loved ones for votes. That's exactly what it comes down to.

4. The Kos poster asks if Kristol was implying that
Bush would have an easier time waging war if the US was not a democracy.

I have two reactions.

a) Maybe he would. Doesn't mean he'd wage it better.

b) Um, what abundance of Democracy is preventing him from waging war? The man's practically a Roman Senate-appointed Dictator with a longer term. If the Presidency is so all-powerful, what the hell is he afraid of even if the Democrats take both houses of Congress?

9. The key is that he needs a draft but can't have one
If we weren't a democracy, he'd be conscripting for the military left and right. But he can't because he'd have millions in the streets here in the US.

5. I think the truth about Bush
came to Smith while he was in New Orleans, covering Katrina. I saw him visibly shaken several times. I know he must have begun to wonder what kind of a man Bush was, to ignore and abandon so many Americans while he ate cake and played air guitar.

Once we are able to get a peek behind the curtain, and see that all of the props are cardboard, and not real, it's hard to get that image out of our minds when we're watching the play. Shep saw behind the curtain hiding the real Bush from the image of him the press, and Republicans have constantly painted for us.

He has seen that Bush is willing to let deaths pile up, if it serves his own agenda. Bush doesn't do the right thing. He does what he thinks is right for himself.

10. I was thinking that also..
I remember the dude in the studio said "let's put some perspective on this" to which Shep said, "This is the perspective! It's all around me!" (I paraphrased.) I can't remember who the dude in the studio was -- it wasn't Insanity but it was one of the regular anchors.

15. That is it
Load Kristol's grinning ass on a plane
and send him to Iraq, now. This was his
baby .... give him an M-16, a plane ride, and his very own hummer
which he has to drive 10 hours a day in Iraq .....

I give him 30 hours max.

I think he had an epiphany at some point, and decided the enormous paychecks from Rove weren't worth spending eternity in Hell.

25. I'm not sure 1 million troops would be enough to "win" in Iraq.
Besides, where does Kristol think these additional troops will come from? I read the transcript, and he was virtually incoherent.
But the most despicable thing he said, which pretty much sums up the Republican attitude, was this:

"I'm willing to.. I think we may have to take more casualties there."

the bush* regime has lost all credibility with the people of Afghanistan, Iraq and the rest of the world.

you could tell the man had a heart and now his heart is showing more. Maybe faux will fire him and he can go to a more trustworthy news channel. People who have heart are too good for faux news.
