1. But Clinton is to be faulted for not firing Ken Starr

At a certain point he should have stopped cooperating, fired Starr for cause (which the Independent Counsel law allows), and threatened him with criminal prosecution.

he is to be faulted for what he did with Monica Lewinsky - he had to know what was going to happen if he got caught what kind of hell he would be putting the country through, and he did it anyway.

I like bill clinton and I think he was a good president, but he really screwed up that time.

But overall he was a good president. I absolutely despise these little dickhead Bush-supporters' attempts to blame him for 9/11. I don't think I've ever been so pissed off since that Swift Boat garbage back in 2004. That or their completely despicable attacks on Cindy Sheehan.

5. Clinton could not fire Starr; Starr was appointed by a three Judge

panel and only they could fire him.

Starr was appointed under the laws enacted after Nixon fired the special prosecuter during the Saturday Night Massacre. Those laws were allowed to sunset just prior to Bush taking office.

I've thought for a long time that one of the goals of the Republican majority at the time was to so sicken the people regarding the special procecutor laws by such egregious use of them that the voters would demand that the laws not be renewed.

I think that was as much their goal as discrediting Clinton.
