2. Oh noes they are gonna find out where my boats are at

That "scary" agency that is behind navo.navy.mil.. Naval Oceanographic Office http://www.navo.hpc.mil/

First off, the url in the browser doesnt have an https.

So, the picture is misleading. Certificates are not used for non-secure sites.

The fact that this certificate was in the cert store of this persons browser has nothing to do with the site in the background.

Where did you get it? and who alleged that this certificate was somehow proof of snooping?

3. Someone using the cert shown was trying to connect
to their computer while they were on the CGCS board. It was totally unsolicited. A penetration attempt. Probably a ssh type connection. The site in the background has nothing to do with the cert.

5. the ssh store is associated with the program that needs PKI
Edited on Sun Oct-01-06 06:32 PM by Moochy
So If I wanted to see my cert store for putty, a terminal program like telnet but with over the wire PKI security, for instance its not stored in IE's cert store.

an SSH attempt from a remote machine to ones computer the cert is sent to the client machine. In this case, the snoops machine would request the SSH cert from the remote machine, in this case the bogus tinfoil hat wearing person.

Mind you I'm not saying the govt. doesnt spy etc. etc. but "someone" should get their story straight.

SSH will only connect to a PC running SSHD. Someone is full of shit.
