If there are any more republican scandals... |

...the corporate media just may have to go back to covering the Iraq war to distract us from it.
I know. It's not a very funny joke, but it's my way of saying that there is an awfully peculiar quirk among the conservative base.
These smug SOBs can piss on the Constitution, lie like cheap walmart rugs, line their pockets with bribes *err* campaign contributions, get our brothers and sisters killed for profit in middle eastern meat grinder-wars started on lies, break every fucking law in the Geneva convention by finding a back door way to "legalize" torture, and on...and on...and on...
But get into a scandal which involves sex? Jeebus help you. Just ask Clinton, Hart, or Jimmy Swaggart...you're fucked.
It must be those uptight puritanical genes Americans sprang from.

1. Goes to the heart of their voter base |
|
The so-called 'values' voters were really all they had left. It'll be really interesting to watch the poll numbers in the next week or so.

3. Yep. More chrisitans = More rapists, child molesters, gay bashers, etc. |
|
We teach little kids about a voyeuristic, invisible man who lives in the sky. He watches 14 year old boys masturbate (and even reads their fantasies) and writes their 'sins' down in a book.
Christianity screws up little kids minds. Preachers are the biggest child molesters of all. When the religious right says that gays are pedophiles and recruit children....they are oblivious to the fact that they do just that with sunday school classes.

...however, even though I am not an atheist, I have on occasion, told various fundies over the years, when they decide to go into a preaching trance on me, that I am an atheist. I get the strangest looks on their faces in response to that at times. It's the kind of "maybe you're right" fear in their eyes that makes them wonder if paying the church elders to tell them how to think, dress, and feel was all for nothing.
But then, it usually only reaffirms their faith anyway, because if it weren't for the support of their beliefs, they'd be the biggest suckers on the planet.

5. Yes - I've also seen that feared look in their eyes. |
|
The biggest fear they have is to allow that "Maybe it's all a scam?" thought into their minds.
Everything is ok, as long as the don't question the assumptions of the cult. But looking into the eyes of a non-believer goes a bit too close to the edge for them, I think. It's like America questioning whether capitalism is the right system. Too much is invested in it, to question it.
