Molesting underage boys is NOT the same as consensual sex! |
|
Okay, something is annoying me and it's probably obvious, so Capt. Obvious strikes again but...
The other day I heard some Rethuglican yahoo equating this Foley thing with the Clinton-Monica scandal. Today, someone here heard a desperate caller say that "Monica was a kid too."
Here's the deal, sex with an underage minor, regardless of the minor's gender is not the same as consensual sex. Period. Also, sex with a woman who is of age to consent is not the same thing as molesting or raping a young boy (or girl)!
I was disgusted to hear that the Monica-Clinton scandal was being equated to molesting an underage boy or boys. It is not the same thing and they know it - homophobes that they are.
I needed to get that off my chest. Thanks.

2. And even if you accept the ASSumption that Clinton was |

wrong for succumbing to the wiles of an overheated Monica, TWO WRONGS NEVER MAKE A RIGHT.
You'd think these wingnuts would have learned that one by the age of five, because "Billy did it TOO!" was never a defense to Mom.

3. Age of consent in DC is 16, so...not a crime? Also, I don't know if |
|
there was actual sex (tho some is bound to come out---he must have had SOME success after all the trolling he apparently did)

Federal is 17 or 18. That's why the FBI is involved.

10. Federal age of consent for sex is 16 |
|
The FBI is involved for 2 reasons:
1) The political issues. 2) Potential violations of the interstate propositioning for sex law (which is 18).

There are a variety of federal laws regarding teens and sex crimes, with ages varying from 12 - 18. So many laws have been passed and overturned by the Supreme Court in the last 10 years, I can't tell which ones are still on the books and which ones aren't. But I'm certain the FBI knows the age of the pages in question and wouldn't be investigating if it could all be dismissed because the pages were under 16. That's pretty simple police work.

11. It's the age difference! |
|
My god, but how many times does this have to be pointed out?!
A 16yo cannot consent to sex with someone 38yo his senior regardless of the local "age of consent".

4. Monica Lewinsky was an adult woman |
|
And, not barely legal, as the porn sites say, but a college graduate in her 20's.

8. I thought the young man in question found the emails to be "sick" |
|
My understanding is that they went beyond what he was comfortable with, that's not consensual folks. Using your authority to force unwanted attentions on a youth or any person is just wrong.
Also, I heard on the news the boy was 15 when this all took place. Is that not correct?

9. I can't stand it when they call Monica Lewinsky a "child". |
|
Heaven forbid a woman in her 20's would choose to be sexual because *gasp!* she wants to. Do they really think we only have sex because a man comes around and brainwashes us? That we are so weak and impressionable that every sexual encounter takes place only because we are tricked or pressured into it? If they see no difference between the maturity of a teen and someone more than five years older, then they're either a teen or an idiot.
Monica and Bill were both guilty for their idiotic affair and she never indicated that she was pressured or harassed to do something she didn't want to do. Extramarital affairs happen all the time (as I'm sure many of the lurking freepers could personally relate) but to equate adultery with what Foley did is grasping at straws.
Are they also comparing Foley's actions to Gingrich's extramarital affairs? Didn't think so.

15. "minor" and "age of consent" are not interchangeable terms. |
|
I'm just pointing this out, FYI because it seems you might think they are.
This is not at all similar to Monica, though. A page is not an intern either (in no small part due to the age requirements of each position).
