Reid caved on the Iran Sanctions/Regime Change Bill
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 08:25 PM by chill_wind
So did you know Sen Reid had a Hold on the bill-- and he dropped it?
Does 99.9% of America even know what Congress did a a couple days ago regarding Iran?

Why aren't they trumpeting this major legislation-- this new step in this big fight on their war on terra and keepin Americans safe from Iran-- all over the place?

I mean, from the urgency, it's just like Saddam and nukes getting ready to rain down all over Texas *tomorrow*.

Why the complete media blackout?

REID DROPS HOLD, CONGRESS APPROVES IFSA

Washington DC, September 28, 2006 - On September 30, in the dying hours of the Senate’s final legislative day, proponents of an Iran sanctions and regime change measure (S 3971) prevailed by removing a hold placed on the bill and sending it to President Bush’s desk for signature. The deadlock that had stalled the Senate bill was reportedly broken after Sen. Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) was persuaded to drop his hold on the legislation. The Senate bill’s passage signifies a legislative victory for its author, Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), who stated, “The United States cannot stand by while the government of Iran continues to be a grave threat to our country, our allies, and the entire international community.”

(...)

Companion legislation in the House (HR 6198) breezed through that chamber by a voice vote on Thursday, September 28 to set up a Senate vote the following day, but Sen. Reid blocked that vote asserting that Senators had no time to review the recent revisions to IFSA and suggesting that its contents were too controversial. According to Congressional sources, Reid instead offered to temporarily extend ILSA until mid-November and revisit the IFSA question after legislators returned from their midterm election campaigns.

If sustained, Reid’s objections could have torpedoed IFSA, at least temporarily, but the Minority Leader shifted his position early Saturday morning, without a public explanation.

"According to congressional sources, the America Israel Public Affairs Committee lobbied extensively on behalf of the bill."

Bush over the weekend? Or AIPAC? or both?

7. It sounds sinsiter but isn't it just that
Without large enough Dems seated in the Legislature, there was no chance for filibuster?

I mean isn't it simply a matter of whether or not there are enough votes?
