What if this is all just a big Rove plot....sacrifice one of their own
a Gay Republican with known predator tendencies...who would care? The repugs wouldn't care if a known potential predator lost his seat if they could use it to their political advantage. Stay with me...

a few weeks from now...

...after an 'investigation' its 'found' that it was a political set-up by the left, and even though Foley was guilty of being a predator, they used him to turn the tide of the election back in their favor.

Nahhhh....never mind.

I know its a stretch...but didn't Rove bug his own office in Texas and then accuse the Dems?

I've been disappointed to many times to really feel comfortable about how this might turn out.

Just funnin with ya.

1. there is too much fall-out
too many members of congress are being touched by this, the Dem's need to bring that fact to the forefront..

3. It wouldnt' work.
No one gives a Damn who released those emails and IMs but the people getting burned by them. So if rove does pull that one, there's more likely to be a massive swing to the Dems who worked to protect children than the repubs trying to finger them for it.

4. Well, its good to think these things through...
...but agree, I don't think anything couldtake away from a scandal where the guy watching out for missing and exploited kids turns out to be a pedophile. The letters are already out, the damage seems to be done, unless we are missing some big major component. :)

6. Foley jumped way too quick to blame it on Dems
We didn't even have to act and he was gone so, nice idea, but this one is their own.

7. We're giving Rove waaaay too much credit here
the House pubs tried hiding this and I think they were betting on the hope that the kids would keep quiet. Makes you wonder if the kids were intimidated in any way, doesn't it?

Rove plays dirty in a "steal the letterhead from the opposing candidate's office and make fake letters" snaky sort of way. He isn't creative enough to pull off something like this. Besides, he's busy enough with the various lies and antics of the administration to even have the bandwith to keep tabs on the House. Sure he's a big ass, but we can't give him credit for all the asshole things done by everyone in his party.

8. Foley was one of their prolific fundraisers - he's got about $2.7 million
cash on hand - here's all the info on his campaign finance/contributions from Open Secrets:

The bush corporation probably wanted to keep his money close - what will they do now?

9. Tempting theory, but....
Foley plays WAY too close to their supposed "strength," i.e., pretentious holier-than-thou moral superiority. Nope, you don't sacrifice your queen-pawn unless you have a really good riposte set up, and this has clearly been a bolt-from-the-blue to them....I mean, look who they've left running damage control -- Denny Hastert?!?!?! Oh, yah, what a credible spokesman. <snarfling up my sleeve>
If they were going to "throw Foley under the bus" to distract us from NIE/Woodward/habeus-corpus week, they wouldn't have left it hanging to the point that Fla voters now have the choice of voting "for" a child-predator in order to vote for the empty suit replacing him or voting Democrat.

10. If It Was - It's Backfired
Edited on Mon Oct-02-06 08:46 PM by MannyGoldstein
Everyone on that side of the aisle that touches this goes radioactive - Hastert, Snowjob, ... this is a major catastrophe for the Rethugs - there's no way to defend themselves to "their base" on this.

11. It just seems too good to be true...NOT the perversion...but the hypocricy
and its fall out.

I agree...I think the house of cards is falling, I just hope the deck isn't stacked.

12. no chance
The house race is too close to sacrifice a seat.

If the dems end up with a 1 seat majority, it would be the dumb move of the century.

14. I said the same thing about Dan Rather
That was a total Rove set-up. He sent those phony documents to Dan Rather, and there was no question about it. He's not going to pull the same rabbit out of his hat twice. This could very well be a set-up. Give it two months, people wont care anymore.

15. I don't think so
If your hypothesis has any mertit, then not only has Rove sacrificed Foley, but Hastert, Boehner and Reynolds as well.

Oh, and the Republicans chances of hanging on to Congress now? Fahgettaboutit.
