Henry Hyde for Speaker??????????
http://www.washtimes.com/op-ed/20061002-102008-9058r.htm

House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once. Either he was grossly negligent for not taking the red flags fully into account and ordering a swift investigation, for not even remembering the order of events leading up to last week's revelations -- or he deliberately looked the other way in hopes that a brewing scandal would simply blow away. He gave phony answers Friday to the old and ever-relevant questions of what did he know and when did he know it? Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance.
A special, one-day congressional session should elect a successor. We nominate Rep. Henry Hyde, also of Illinois, the chairman of the House International Relations Committee whose approaching retirement ensures that he has no dog in this fight. He has a long and principled career, and is respected on both sides of the aisle. Mr. Hyde would preside over the remaining three months of the 109th Congress in a manner best suited for a full and exhaustive investigation until a new speaker for the 110th Congress is elected in January, who can assume responsibility for the investigation.

2. hyde can barely walk
I attended the final meeting of the Judiciary Committee this year and Hyde attended so that he could be acknowledged. He is in extremely poor health. And frankly, if the Democrats capture the House in November, the lame duck session isn't going to be very long.

3. Hyde..
... is a real piece of work. I'll never forget his sanctimonious speeches during the Clinton impeachment hearings.

Right up there with Arlen Specter's villification of Anita Hill during the Thomas confirmation. The Republican party at it's worst, doing what they do.

8. If they was a caretaker as a political statement: Bob Michel would be
the best choice.

But this is pretty stuuning when WaTi calls for a repuke to step down as speaker. I guess it is about trying to put the best face on a pig before the election but it was pretty indicting og Hastert.

Of course if Haster resigned (not going to happen) this story would dog the GOP for an additional two weeks. And Boehner as the heir appparent also knew about this early on as well.

4. Hyde's office is the one I least wanted to work on on the Hill
His committee admin at Judiciary was a real piece of work, and you saw what his committee can do. Mean, backstabbing bastard, that's what he and his staff are.

5. These people are really becoming a joke
Wasn't Henry Hyde, at the time of the Impeachment hearings, involved in a long term extra-marital affair of his own?? I seem to remember reading that after the fact.

All I really remember about him is his unbelievable arrogance and swagger while he and his committee strode the halls of congress in between hearings, and his blatant disrespect of President Clinton when giving interviews.

Just another Republican Douchebag.

6. Hyde had a scandalous illicit immoral affair with a married woman
Edited on Tue Oct-03-06 07:27 AM by SpiralHawk
and destroyed a marriage because of his lust, and his VIOLATION of his sacred marriage vows. Is this what republicons stand for? Are these republicon family values?

Is this the Most Moral human being the republicons can come up with for a "leader"?

Pathetic and shameful.

14. Hyde's Retiring
His name isn't on the ballot in the Illinois 6th...it's Tammy Duckworth vs. a Hastert lackey. Henry's got too much of a pantload to do much...except go chase young things at beach resorts.

Still...the Washington Times throw Gym Teach Denny under the bus...I never thought I'd see this.
