He is unethical and immoral and a hypocrite. Period!
The Foley scandal is only the latest in a string of unethical and immoral Republican actions that Hastert has used his power to hide. He is much more concerned with managing the fallout from the Foley scandal than he is in doing what is responsible and proper. Politcl damage cotrol is the top priority of the Republican party. They have successfully used the Christian right to win elections while secretly despising them as a moral nusiance. Hastert has a documented record of trying and succeeding in thwarting several huge unethical and possible illegal actions by fellow Republicans. He fired members of the Ethics Committee who reprimanded Tom DeLay, he tried to gut the Republicans' own ethics process during the DeLay scandal by changing the ethics rules, suspended regular House ethics order and rigged the rules to advance partisan agenda. Hastert by his appearances now on talk radio is drumming up support to maintain his job and the Limbaughites will toss away all their phony morality and rationalize some way to excuse Hastert for his poor leadership in the Foley matter. The Republicans will do anything, step on anyone to maintain power which means money in their pockets.
Here are some links to some of the things about Hastert.
