OOOPS. Apparently Foley wasn't much of a DRINKER!!!!!!
Foley Acquaintances Question Alcoholism

By BRIAN SKOLOFF
The Associated Press
Tuesday, October 3, 2006; 8:39 PM

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- When disgraced former Rep. Mark Foley announced he was entering rehab for treatment of alcoholism and "other behavioral problems," some of those who have known him for years were shocked and suspicious.

Some friends and acquaintances said they rarely saw him drink.

A former colleague, Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., said on Fox News Channel: "I don't buy this at all. I think this is a phony defense. The fact is, I think he's responsible for what he did here and I think it's a gimmick."

(snip)

"Mark acknowledges that he is an alcoholic and as many alcoholics does not publicly display his consumption," Foley's attorney and longtime friend David Roth said.

(snip)

"I have never seen Mark inebriated in public," said Robin Bernstein, who has known Foley for 25 years. "I mean, he was a social drinker like most of us at cocktail parties with a glass of wine, but Mark was always ... the consummate gentleman."

1. So why doesn't the Republican leadership, beholden to the
nasty Religious Right, force Foley into one of their little bogus "pray-away-the-gay" clinics?

i don't buy that bullshit either..the lawyer said ..statue of limitations
i do not believe there are statue of limitations..because of repressed memory of some victims of abuse...i was yelling that at my tv when the lawyer wouldn't name the clergy person..i said bullshit..there is no statue of limitations...many people repress the face of a person who sexually abused them..until something snaps when they are an adult..

remember most of those who have successfully sued the catholic church ..did not sue until well into adult life!

this is nothing but a smokescreen!!

and to try to get this fucker off!

5. They meant he's being treated for having sobriety.
It'll take 30 days to not dry him out.

6. This is NOT a defense of Foley, but it is true that many
alcoholics are never seen drunk in public. Some of them never drink around others. Some are maintenance drinkers; some are binge drinkers. There is no one type of alcoholic.

Again, this is no defense of Foley; just saying that in many cases, people DON'T realize that someone they know is an alcoholic.

Having said that, though, I will echo what so many others have said in this forum: alcoholism is NO excuse, NO reason, for pedophilia. And, getting sober is not going to stop the behavior. The specific behavior Foley engaged in MUST be addressed (and punished).

18. That's true SeattleGirl, but
I have a strong suspicion that he has no alcohol problem whatsoever and simply ran to a place he knew he couldn't be harassed in for at least 30 days or so....no media, no phone calls, just 12 steps and probably a very plush facility....oh, and no withdrawal symptoms!!!

10. nor did he have anything to do with the "Church"
It is the perfect storm. I'm an alcoholic and I was molested by one of those pervert priests when I was a kid and now I am emotionally scarred for life and I had to turn to alcohol in order to deal with my scared life.

Yeah right FOLEY. :nopity:

A trap indeed. Drag the Church into it and everyone buys the B.S.

Was Foley a member of the Catholic Church ever? Does anyone even know?

Told BULLSHIT the whole thing IMO.

In the meantime, Foley is tucked away in hiding until AFTER the elections.

I don't believe it, not for one second.

SORRY FOLEY YOU PERVERTED HYPOCRITE! You are NOT excused!

:grr:

:dem: :kick:

11. Slimey Republicans. A special specie.
This animal retreats to a separate dwelling when threatened. They act in groups, often using each other for protection. It is not uncommon to see them eat their own in emergency situations. They camoflage themselves when frightened. They are most dangerous when traveling alone.

14. Joe Scarborough said he never saw him drinking either and they used to
do a lot of social functions together. And he asked around and no one else had ever seen him with a drink in his hand either.
