Not that the elected Dems are nuts, but that those of us who are still trying to make this party be all that it should be are wasting our time trying to breath life into a corpse...

1. Honey, I live in Texas.

I *am* the most liberal person I know. In the flesh, that is. I think most DU'ers are more liberal than I am. But in this state, boy, I'm almost a pinko!

3. I'm in Madison WI
and there are liberals every six feet, by law.

I'm afraid of Texas, I'll probably never go there (although everyone says Austin is awesome).

9. I live in Athens, Ga - an oasis in the middle of FundieFreakState
When I described Howard Dean's platform in 2004 (including gun rights) - they loved it - until they hear his name.

The media continues to demonize "liberals" everyday.

14. I'm a fellow Athenian who notices that even the Banner Herald...
continues to demonize liberals. This despite the political leanings of the town. Could it be that the Cox family just uses their 17 or so southern newspapers as loss leader shilling outlets for the corporate view? Hmmm...

2. Had Dean not assumed party leadership,
I might be among them. However, he and his brother are continuing to build a strong grassroots organization and are breaking funding records while they do it.

Eventually, this combination may allow them to oust the DLC and other party conservatives from the center of party power, and what we thought was a corpse may instead awaken from deep coma.

I sincerely hope so. It would be much more convenient to get my party back than to have to build another one from the ground up.

4. Hear it all the time.
The litany goes something like: "The Democrats are just as eeeevil as the Republicans. There's no point in supporting either party. Don't you know Kerry was in Skull and Bones with Bush? That means they're all in cahoots. Blah blah blah de blah blah blah...." :eyes:

Which is exactly what the Reich Wing and their compliant media want them to think. Look at the Abramoff scandal. How does something that was a direct product of the K Street Project, which was a defined strategy to eliminate all lobbying money to Democrats, become "bipartisan"?!?! It's a perfect example of why this is happening and why we should continue to fight for our party. It ain't perfect, but it's all we got.

7. That's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.
Its a broad brush argument. Sure there are useless Dems, DINOs, and Dems married to corporate sponsorship but Dems are not all alike and there are some I am so proud of.

It kills me to think of Conyers and Waters being lumped in with Feinstein and Lieberman.

10. I have a friend who thinks we should give up on the gay marriage issue.
He's a Dem and extremely well-versed in politics. He's also very religious (and doesn't personally believe in same-sex marriage).

He thinks it's a wedge issue that we can't win and that we should sacrifice it for political advantage.

I think he's wrong.

16. many in my family feel the same way
They think we are marginalized by issues like gay's, God and guns. To a degree, I think they are right. I think that Gay guys are funnier than hell and have great taste. I think, like the Buddhists, that you can have as many Gods as you like, or none at all and, I think that the only way you can insure a free society is if the populace is armed. And, I am the most progressive person I know. In fact, my family nick name is comrade! So stick that in your Democratic pipe and smoke it!

17. I understand the argument, I just don't agree.
(well, not about the gay issue...I'm with you on the guns and I'm not sure what your position is on God as it relates to the disagreements between Dems and Repubs)

I think "All men are created equal" is a non-negotiable. When groups are discriminated against by law (whether they be women or blacks or Jews or gays) it needs to be dealt with. Nobody is looking for "special rights" here, just the same rights that every other American enjoys. I think that's worth fighting for.

13. I think I'M nuts for thinking the Dems will ever snap out of their coma
And, frankly, I'm starting to lose any last vestiges of hope. But I'd rather go crazy than sell my soul to the GOP.

15. Amen, Sister!
I used to think Hillary would lead us out of the wilderness, but she's no Moses. Hell, she's not even the better half of the Clinton partnership.

Nope. It's going to be a groundswell of women, one at a time, raising consciousness, just like the 60's and 70's.
