12. I can picture Nancy behind Bush, next to Darth, at the 2007 State of the |
|
Union.
It looks good.
I really wish Hillary would go for Dem. Majority Leader too.

I hope she gives up the idea of running for President and goes for the senate leadership when Harry retires.

6. Nancy Pelosi will make a great Unitary Executive after Bush's impeachment |
|
Want to have some fun?
Tomorrow, call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 224-3121 and ask for Dennis Hastert's office.
When they answer, tell them you had ACTUALLY asked for Nancy Pelosi's office.
Let's see if they panic.

it's two different jobs. Speaker presides over the house, Majority Leader manages the floor for the majority party.

17. Hastert is Speaker. Tom Delay was Majority Leader, then |
|
Boehner took over that spot when Delay quit.
In the Senate, Majority Leader is the top spot since there isn't a Speaker. The Speaker of the House is the next person in line for the presidency after the VP.

10. Senority my a**. I very much prefer Murtha! |
|
AsDem leaders, I think we have to project the best possible leadership positions. Nancy is OK, and she can slam a Pubjust as good as amyone else, but she doesn't project as a leader!
Now before you beat me for being sexist, I happen to be a retired Dorp. Director and Female! I know what it means to project power and leadership, and unfortunately Nancy just doesn't have it. Like it or not,the Dems do have ONE woman who does project power and leadership, and that's Hillary.
Before you smack me around, listen to both of them speak sometime and I think you'll see what I mean.

13. Maybe for 2 years simply for Murtha's position on the war |
|
and his bonafides as a supporter for the military. What makes me hesitate though is Murtha is big for pork for his district and will backroom deal with Repukes on their bills to get that pork. I think he could possibly sell Dems down the river on some issues. He's real old-school pol and not very liberal on many other issues.

16. No way. He's a pork king. The LAST thing we need is spending |
|
to remain out of control, and it will under Murtha. That's great that he's speaking out against Iraq, but he'll throw credibility on fiscal issues for Democrats right down the tubes. http://www.nytimes.com/2006/10/02/washington/02murtha.html?_r=1&hp&ex=1159848000&en=b4474a9614c4d7bf&ei=5094&partner=homepage&oref=sloginRead the whole article -- he pretty much admits it, so it's true. No, no, no. I'm for fiscal discipline and this guy will not do that.

20. Murtha has a well earned reputation for slinging pork. Pelosi's better |
|
Pelosi would probably be more fair, more judicious, in passing out the inevitable vanity bills to members. Our country is deeply deeply in debt, so someone will need to keep Murtha on a leash--especially if we get a Democratic president AND Congress in 2009. The temptation to break the bank will be tremendous.

I like Murtha's position on Iraq, but other than that, he's part of the problem, not part of the solution. I'm glad he's on our side, but no, I don't want to see him in the top leadership post. His positions on health care, the environment, banking issues, tax reform, etc., are too DLC-influenced for me.
Plus, he is definitely part of the Good Ol' Boy culture that needs to be completely eradicated from Congress.

In any event, I don't think Murtha is in the running. Steny Hoyer is the current whip. The criteria is winning an election of your party caucus.

|
If it's Pelosi, that's good. If it's Murtha, that's good. If it's another Democrat, that's good.
We'll talk about specifics when the time comes. But now is the time to work hard and make sure that a Democrat *can* be the Speaker of the House.
