Jon Stewart's show could be much better.
Edited on Thu Oct-05-06 11:37 AM by glarius
I love Jon Stewart and his amazing ability to skewer the right-wing asses who come on his show. He is a genius at unmasking their hypocrisy
and manages to show them up with a good-natured humour that doesn't offend them and has them coming back for more. There are certainly enough of them available for him to fill a half-hour nightly show! I believe the other performers on his show are just time wasters, except for Lewis Black, who fits into the show perfectly. I know there will be disagreement about this but this is my personal opinion.:)

P.S...Steven Colbert manages to do it alone. So can Jon..IMO

1. His 10 minute bit at the beginning is always good
But I tend to agree with you that the middle 1/3rd is off and on...
Its often funny but not always politically relevant, which is probably because not all fans of the show are political junkies...which is good...if some completely apolitical persona picks up whats going on through watching the show for the other stuff its worth it!

I tend to like the Colbert Report overall more now. I have yet to see a "The word" segment I didn't like....

2. Well, I think it's important to remember ...
The Daily Show is a comedy program. They've always had funny 'stories' and probably will until the end of the show. Whereas Jon's pieces at the beginning make fun of politicians, the stories tend to make fun of the media, which is (quite often) over the top and sensationalized.

5. Yes it is a comedy show. But
mostly, the other performers, except for Lewis Black, are rarely funny but are often just ponderous. IMO

3. Those fake interviews in the middle of the show are annoying
to me, more often than not.

I like Jon's bit at the beginning and then Jon's interview of his guest for the evening.

I often fast-forward through the middle part of the show.

36. I have to say I LOVE them... I skip through many interviews...
I notice they haven't been doing as many 'fake interviews' as they used to, but some of them are CLASSIC.

4. If Stewart did that all along, we wouldn't have a Colbert Report.
Or a Steve Carrell.

6. The new talent is awful. For the first time in 10 years

I turn the show off when that British guy with the black hair is on.

Gone are the days of Corddrey, Even Steven, and Helms. Ed Helms is doing The Office with Steve Carrell. I think Corddrey is getting his own show.

If The Daily Show decided to change the format to a 30 minute Jon Stewart Show, it would work really well.

7. I had to turn it off
When he had Dennis Miller on they both kept laughing it up. I could see nothing funny. I just kept thinking why doesn't Jon speak up. To me Dennis Miller is nothing but a jerk and shouldn't be encouraged or be acknowledged by Stewart. I think Colbert would have nailed him.

Modern love.:-)

Like he does for the first 5-10 minutes, I think the show would be perfect.

I generally bail when the guest comes on...

15. Can i point something out to you?
The Daily show is fake news with a fake news team, it's not soley a showcase for Jon, your hometown news does segments and so does network news, it's not Brian Williams for the whole 30 minutes, it's a group venture. Colbert is also using a format, the pundit format so the whole is centered around his personality.

24. Keep In Mind, It's Still Basic Cable
Not network TV. They can't keep talented performers. Also, remember Colbert left and took a lot of the better writers with him, so the talent base is a little thin right now.

Don't worry. Better talent is on the way. TDS has surpassed SNL as the breeding ground for ground-breaking satirical comedy.
