Why has FOLEY HIMSELF not been questioned yet? Seriously?
If the FBI is interviewing these staffers and the Republicans are demanding Democrats appear under oath with no evidence whatsoever...

Why is the principal in this matter not even forced to answer any questions?

Why does he get to be safely under lock and key at some Scientologist rehab facility?

7. So if I go commit a bunch of crimes all I have to do is go to some
Scientology rehab facility and hide out, like my personal sanctuary, forever, and I'm good to go?

and you won't be investigated.

6. Because he's in "treatment" and his doctors can prevent it.
And because he's no longer a member of the House, and the investigation is geared toward who covered what up when.

My guess? He'll be interviewed by the FBI and on every TV newstalk show he can find, when he gets out.

And, keep in mind--his 30 day treatment will end a few days before the election, so any hopes that the Republicans have of this thing subsiding will dissipate as soon as Foley gets out of jail--cuz, like I said, he'll be searching out media to listen.

16. I'm certainly not defending the guy....but my understdand is that there's
much confusion about if he broke the laws, how and jurisdictional law will apply, and if the very law he wrote will apply.

Murder is a whole different scenario.

But as for how Bush has already destroyed our Constitution, I'd like to see the process of jurisprudence upheld. And it may just be that the investigation is proceeding as it should, and that he will be charged with a crime the minute he leaves treatment.

I hope this drags out for another month--keeps it in the news.

I abhore what Foley did to those pages, and if it would have been my kid, I'd have had a hard time holding myself back from wanting to rip out his throat.

23.  Emailing a suggestive email or sick perverted IM's to an 18 year old
is quite a bit different than shooting someone.

I'm even sure what laws if any, Foley broke. Do you?

I know shooting someone is illegal.

25. ABC says he were 18. when the IM's occurred. Who are " they"
The email happened when he was under 18, which was weird but not perverted. The IM's happened when he was six weeks past his 18th birthday.

"Jordan Edmund, 21,"

snip

"Also, ABC News reported some exchanges were in April 2003, when Edmund would have been 18."

What's with the "poppyseedman" comment? I'm not defending the guy, he's a freak. but what exactly did he do illegally? I'm not sure.

27. Nice try. Easy if you cherrypick one source, fed from Drudge... see below
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15063977/

The boy who received the e-mails was 16 in the summer of 2005 when he worked in Congress as a page. After the boy returned to his Louisiana home, the congressman e-mailed him. The teenager thought the messages were inappropriate, particularly one in which Foley asked the teen to send a picture of himself.

The teen’s family contacted their congressman, Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-La., who then discussed the problem with Reynolds sometime this spring.

“Rodney Alexander brought to my attention the existence of e-mails between Mark Foley and a former page of Mr. Alexander’s,” Reynolds, chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee, said in a written statement Saturday.

“Despite the fact that I had not seen the e-mails in question, and Mr. Alexander told me that the parents didn’t want the matter pursued, I told the speaker of the conversation Mr. Alexander had with me,” Reynolds said.

10. That's why he checked into rehab immediately. Same thing Rush did.
Checking into rehab prevents the suspect from being questioned, and also begins to create a cover story for why the suspect wasn't really responsible for his own actions. It also "proves" that the suspect is sorry and is seeking help.

Rehab units are full of Republicans. Repubs work rehab units into their vacation cycles.

What interested me was that he claimed he was an alcoholic and needed treatment, and yet many of his closest friends and colleagues said they never knew he was a drinker.

13. No but this is a serious question. If there was evidence that you had
committed a serious crime, I user murder as the most extreme example, are there no limits to this kind of "sanctuary"? If O.J. had made it to some friendly rehab place run by his friends in his Bronco, the cops wouldn't have gone in there and dragged him out? I think not.

31. Different scenario
In the case of a murder, the question is "who committed the crime?" So of course they would question or arrest a suspect who went into rehab. In this case, as in the case of Limbaugh, the question is "was a crime committed?" Rehab offers all kinds of sanctuary--the lawyer can argue there is no flight risk, that the request for interrogation is being turned down for medical reasons rather than because the suspect doesn't want to be interrogated, that no crime has been committed so there is no urgency to override the medical need, etc. Once there is solid proof of a crime, the situation changes.

22. No, they can't, and that's exactly why he's in rehab
In rehab he is under medical care, therefore it is the medical professionals in charge of his care that decide whether or not he can undergo interogation and what type of interogation. He absolutely IS hiding out in rehab. However, it's a temporary measure.

Once he gets out of rehab he'll probably do the talk show circuit where he will proclaim that he is not responsible for his own actions because he was controlled by the demon, Satan (who is a member of the Dem party and under the Dem influence), and therefore, the entire episode was actually the fault of the Dems.

Meanwhile, the FBI (who is controlled by the GOP), will find that he was controlled by the demon, Satan (who is a member of the Dem party and under the Dem influence), and therefore, the entire episode was actually the fault of the Dems.

30. If the FBI interviewed him, I would hope they'd have
enough reliability to not tell anybody.

Either that, or let's have all police and FBI interviews be public knowledge.

I strongly dislike investigations being done with reporters present. It skews the results, and leads to all sorts of half-baked conclusions that the fully-baked conclusions have no chance of competing with.

33. Because during investigations the subject officer is interviewed last.
Edited on Sun Oct-08-06 09:14 PM by Blackthorn
So any further allegations made against him during the investigation can be put to him in one meeting. It also means you can have some corroborated evidence when you go to the subject, who can then hang himself given enough rope.

Good investigations NEVER start with the subject.
