2. I will. If somebody does something stupid, they deserve to be made fun of
Stupidity transcends political parties and always deserves mocking.

3. I am pretty sure that Jon will make a bit of fun at Dems...
but I don't think it will be quite the same as it is now. He is obviously a liberal, so I think it will be different.

7. Stewart leaves TDS in 2008
Who's going to replace him, I wonder?
Who *could*?

I wish someone here on DU would do a poll on that question.

22. Tucker???
"Tucker Carlson, host TDS"??? Look, um (gets shifty-eyed, adjusts imaginary necktie)... yeah, I'm the guy's friend, but...

Seriously, unless Tucker has one heck of a Paul On The Road To Damascus moment and his entire life falls apart and the left helps him put it back together, that dude is becoming more liberal and more intelligent by the week, but him hosting TDS puts a knot in my stomach Maalox can't untie. Gah.

Maybe I should do a Bizarro World "Morning Leibowitz" where Jon eats bad clams and has a nightmare that exactly that happens: Tucker Carlson is hosting TDS. If I do it, I'll credit you!

17. I commented HC4Peace
Hi Uppity, thank you for what you are doing down there. At first I thought you were going down to the Gulf. I have a friend down there now. He says the destruction is still incredible, but that there are so many beautiful stories, particularly about how Katrina and its aftermath have brought whites and blacks together. There was one lovely story involving two outdoor tables being pushed and joined together that brought tears to my eyes (they're tearing up again now. Darn), and he's going to share more of his stories in a couple of days when he returns from Louisiana to Albuquerque. We have many Katrina survivors here. I worried for them this summer because this was the rainiest summer in NM history, 2006. It pounded torrential rains every evening and flooded in some places. I thought about our Katrina people now living here and looked up at G-d angrily and went, "COME ON!" a few times... luckily it's back to dry and sunny now. I hope they somehow adjust from this. And most of all, can you imagine your disillusion with government now? Gee, here's a couple of thousand bucks. Late. Here's rescue. Later. Later enough that more people DIED WHO DIDN'T HAVE TO. Thanks, vote for us, pay your taxes, see ya, bye.

Unconscionable.

May I favorite your site? I want to show it to Pat when he returns from the Gulf, and also just keep a general eye on goings-on down there as the region rebuilds. Who knows, I may just send Jon down there to do some "special reports" in my comic... not a bad idea...

24. Thanks and yes and thanks
this time I get to go on a trip for just pleasure. Yes, it is wild there, amazing. Seems like Katrina recovery has dropped off the news and there has been a distinct decrease in people going down to help. The need is still huge. So, thank you and yes and consider taking a week to work down there. intheflow on DU is a good person to contact for contact information (where what who when, etc)

28. "Katrina Fatigue", suuuuure
Yeah, it's funny how the media claims "Americans are now suffering from 'Katrina Fatigue'." Me to MSM talking head drone: Not any Americans *I* know of, buddy. It's galling they had the nerve to concoct a name for it. It's not much more than Media ADHD in my opinion. The stories that truly need steady follow-up coverage get dropped in something called "The Memory Hole", and the MSM was more than happy to protect Bush's failures there by moving on to the next story. When I think of how Katrina, the story of America rebuilding from the loss of an entire major U.S. city, is not important, but Suri Cruise is, it makes me seriously want to hurt something...

Going down there for a week is definitely not a bad idea. Putting it on Percolate.

It's ok to make fun of the party IN CONTROL of Congress. :-)

9. Absolutely.
All politicians say and do stupid things, and I'm glad that there's a few media programs who dare to run with it. If you don't learn to laugh about politics (including your own party) every once in a while, you're going to be miserable.

10. We have a 1st Amendment to keep people in power honest. So yes
it's not a tribal thing, not us vs. them (not for me anyway). I think those with voices should point out the flaws and errors of those with power.

16. TDS predates King George's reign
Democrats do some god awful stupid things, too. Voting for the war, voting for torture, voting for don't ask don't tell. While their history is worlds better than the republicans, they aren't exactly shining stars of virtue, themselves. They need to be held accountable for their actions as much as anyone.

"In the summer of 1996 (apparently seeking the support of centrist voters for the coming election), Clinton signed a law to end the federal government's guarantee, created under the New Deal, of financial help to poor families with dependent children. This was called "welfare reform," and the law itself had the deceptive title of "Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996." Its aim was to force poor families receiving federal cash benefits (many of them single mothers with children) to go to work, by cutting off their benefits after two years, limiting lifetime benefits to five years, and allowing people without children to get food stamps for only three months in any three-year period.

The Los Angeles Times reported: "As legal immigrants lose access to Medicaid, and families battle a new five-year limit on cash benefits . . . health experts anticipate a resurgence of tuberculosis and sexually transmitted diseases...... The aim of the welfare cuts was to save $50 billion over a five-year period (less than the cost of a planned new generation of fighter planes). Even the New York Times, a supporter of Clinton during the election, said that the provisions of the new law "have nothing to do with creating work but everything to do with balancing the budget by cutting programs for the poor."

"From the Boston Globe, May 22, 1997: "After White House intervention, the Senate yesterday ... rejected a proposal ... to extend health insurance to the nation's 10.5 million uninsured children ... Seven lawmakers switched their votes ... after senior White House officials ... called and said the amendment would imperil the delicate budget agreement." "

18. The Dems should require...
all their congressional members - and their staffs - to watch Jon and constantly remind themselves that they don't want to be featured on TDS saying/doing stupid things.

Probably the best incentive to good behavior there is.

29. Nod of agreement
Yes, unfortunately I think you're right. I posted something about this when someone on DU asked what we DU-ers think is going to happen over the next few years. I said I believed we were going to see the 22nd Amendment repealed, and Bush proclaimed "the next FDR" by the MSM and both Houses still firmly and illegally occupied by Republicans. This, I predicted humbly, would be the spark that finally ignites a civil war.

I've been called a conspiracy theorist. I see nothing wrong with the title.
I figure, you guys want us to stop theorizing? Then quit conspiring.
