Hi Uppity, thank you for what you are doing down there. At first I thought you were going down to the Gulf. I have a friend down there now. He says the destruction is still incredible, but that there are so many beautiful stories, particularly about how Katrina and its aftermath have brought whites and blacks together. There was one lovely story involving two outdoor tables being pushed and joined together that brought tears to my eyes (they're tearing up again now. Darn), and he's going to share more of his stories in a couple of days when he returns from Louisiana to Albuquerque. We have many Katrina survivors here. I worried for them this summer because this was the rainiest summer in NM history, 2006. It pounded torrential rains every evening and flooded in some places. I thought about our Katrina people now living here and looked up at G-d angrily and went, "COME ON!" a few times... luckily it's back to dry and sunny now. I hope they somehow adjust from this. And most of all, can you imagine your disillusion with government now? Gee, here's a couple of thousand bucks. Late. Here's rescue. Later. Later enough that more people DIED WHO DIDN'T HAVE TO. Thanks, vote for us, pay your taxes, see ya, bye.

Unconscionable.

May I favorite your site? I want to show it to Pat when he returns from the Gulf, and also just keep a general eye on goings-on down there as the region rebuilds. Who knows, I may just send Jon down there to do some "special reports" in my comic... not a bad idea...

this time I get to go on a trip for just pleasure. Yes, it is wild there, amazing. Seems like Katrina recovery has dropped off the news and there has been a distinct decrease in people going down to help. The need is still huge. So, thank you and yes and consider taking a week to work down there. intheflow on DU is a good person to contact for contact information (where what who when, etc)

Yeah, it's funny how the media claims "Americans are now suffering from 'Katrina Fatigue'." Me to MSM talking head drone: Not any Americans *I* know of, buddy. It's galling they had the nerve to concoct a name for it. It's not much more than Media ADHD in my opinion. The stories that truly need steady follow-up coverage get dropped in something called "The Memory Hole", and the MSM was more than happy to protect Bush's failures there by moving on to the next story. When I think of how Katrina, the story of America rebuilding from the loss of an entire major U.S. city, is not important, but Suri Cruise is, it makes me seriously want to hurt something...

Going down there for a week is definitely not a bad idea. Putting it on Percolate.

Democrats do some god awful stupid things, too. Voting for the war, voting for torture, voting for don't ask don't tell. While their history is worlds better than the republicans, they aren't exactly shining stars of virtue, themselves. They need to be held accountable for their actions as much as anyone.

Yes, unfortunately I think you're right. I posted something about this when someone on DU asked what we DU-ers think is going to happen over the next few years. I said I believed we were going to see the 22nd Amendment repealed, and Bush proclaimed "the next FDR" by the MSM and both Houses still firmly and illegally occupied by Republicans. This, I predicted humbly, would be the spark that finally ignites a civil war.

I've been called a conspiracy theorist. I see nothing wrong with the title.
