How is the nuke test good for Repukes?
Forgive my complete ignorance. Some political analyst said on the ole tv this morning that people focusing on the NK nukes would be good for the Republicans in the reelection. The same guy said focusing on Iraq was good for Dems. I don't get it. How is the NK nuclear test good for Cons? I would think having allowed a hostile nation to become a nuclear power would be politically bad for them.

1. Because people refuse to learn history or look backwards...
So all they (the average american voter) see is "Hmmm...right now scary country have big bomb. TV say republicans protect me from scary people with big bombs. I vote republican. Fire bad."

instead of "Hmm....we've known about this growing threat for years now and Clinton did a great job of containing it and then Bush took office and took a completely different approach which allowed this to happen on his watch."

12. I agree...
That appears to be what's happening. I have not feared the nuclear threat in the past, but now I do, with these idiots at the helm... president who outs nuclear intelligence agents, mispronounces the word nuclear and "the internets," and generally shows incompetence at every turn, and a load of automatons supporting him because he is "just like them," which is stupid.

2. Especially when Clinton, Carter, and Albright, through painstaking
whattayacallit - diplomacy - had maneuvered them into rather less hostility. But that's done with now, isn't it?:nuke:

4. It refocuses the public on...
security. And when voting on security, voters are conservative (afraid of change) because change = "the unknown." The public knows Republicans will do at least be status quo. In their minds, Dems could be worse (when fear makes them afraid of change).

7. It isn't. They're just spinning.
If anything, North Korea represents yet another security disaster that spun out of control under the Bush administration. No thinking person could think it helps bush......wait a minute...."thinking person".....nevermind.

8. This is a non-starter for the GOP....
All this happened on Dubya's watch. Sometimes good ol' common sense trumps ideology.

No one except harmless automatons believes anymore that Iraq was a credible WMD threat, and our military is pledged to "stay the course" there....meanwhile, NK develops a nuke and tests it. All this does is highlight just how much a failure this regime has become, with their skewed priorities.

9. It's Not, It's An Unmitigated and Massive Foreign Policy Failure
What you're seeing is the Rove spin. Whoever is saying that is obviously a Rove puppet.

10. Because the hope is it will scare people
shitless about terror and that will make them vote Republican. Or at least that is what they hope. Terror and fear are their only cards and they hope it will still work.

14. Problem is
Iraq is a complete failure--how can a president that failed in Iraq keep us safe from NK. Everyone but the hardcore neocon base will know this.

15. I'm saying what I think their hope is....
not that I believe it. I don't. Though I do think it will still work for most of the uneducated, fundy base.

13. It reinforces the Republican "fear" card.
Sheeple don't look beyond the obvious so they won't know the reason we're in this mess is because King George and his merry band of wingnuts has spent the last few years ignoring and "dissing" North Korea. Like Foley, this will be spun into Clinton's fault and the Democrats, once again, won't be able to keep the sheeple safe.
