Poll question: Do you think the Dems will Filibuster Alito? |
|
I have hope based on the statements of Democratic Senators after they voted against Alito in committee. Yet so often I am disppointed and further despondent. So I'm asking all of you if you think they will Filibuster hoping that your response will give me hope. I believe that even if they fail with a filibuster the fighting itself is progress.

It was pretty ballsy to shut down the senate last fall. Maybe they do have the spine. Maybe they do.

5. "Maybe they do have the spine." |
|
I'm sure they have a spine, but sometimes I see a bit of Yellow in that spine. I need to see more steel in that spine.

8. I hope they understand that 2006 rides on their decision |
|
I've watched politics for a long time, and if they let the momentum shift and hand the far right a "victory" that they can crow about- when they're on the ropes- right before the State of the Union- they shift the momentum back the the Republicans, while demoralizing their base and assuring that A LOT of people will consider them spineless and a poor subsitute for leadership (no matter how corrupt the Republicans are).
They'll also watch some of their contributions dry up- and they'll lose out (as in opportunity costs) on many many more- as well as the ability to keep all these issues on the table.
Finally- they'll have the chance to score a blow against the corporate media- further eroding their credibilty- and that just might just be the biggest prize of all- and the "pudits" will surely talk about that.
Bottom line- they roll over here- they lose Congress and the Senate again in 2006.

we lose democracy. If the President is above the law and has the ability to toss the Constitution aside during "war" time as Alito says then it is game over. We have a king the congress is powerless and we live in a dictatorship. After his confirmation it is all a joke and paperwork. Just a big show.

If they don't filibuster then they should go home. They, the entire congress, will be irrelevant.
