SO, it's OK if the VP says f..k you on the Senate floor, but let.... |
|
a liberal star say it to a heckler and it's the end of the world. The double standard is breathtaking and unrelentless.

Seriously.
Unimpeachable source.

5. In point of fact he did not say fuck you... |
|
he said "go fuck yourself".
My freeper relatives were all venting their outrage over Teresa Heinz Kerry telling a reporter to shut up one day, and I threw Cheney's vitriol back in their faces.
Freeper chorus: Are you sure, I thought that was a Democrat that said that.
This is what years of listening to Rush Limbaugh will get you, unfathomable ignorance and delusion.

You think being a professional heckler is in the same legue as a world wide star? Who paid the heckler to disrupt the performance? Why would someone pay to disrupt her performance. Is that a mean thing to do? It certainly is a Republican thing to do.

30. The heckler may or may not have been paid, but Streisand gets paid. |
|
Even if we assume that this heckler was a pro (I haven't seen any real evidence of this -- just allegations and rumors here at DU), Streisand should have been able to ignore the comment. But, she didn't. And what's the result? The concert will be remembered for Streisand's outburst.
Heckler 1, Streisand 0

7. The Right IS Right, hence, they can do no wrong. |
|
That's a fact. It's the foundation of their thinking, not an exaggeration. This is why contradictions and hypocrisy mean nothing to them and their followers. Any exceptions they make, any rules they break, any dishonesty, A N Y T H I N G is justified by being Right.

17. Yep. That's what I'm talking about. |

They equate their own minds with God by assuming they know whatever it is that "God is Right" about. This justifies anything.
The nuns always used to say that blasphemy is the most dangerous sin, the one most likely to result in damnation.

25. Another nearby church sign carried THIS blasphemy: |
|
"THIS SIGN HAS CHANGED. HAVE YOU? -JESUS"
I actually emailed the pastor to voice the (very respectful) opinion that putting words (esp. trite t-shirt slogans) in Jesus' mouth was offensive for several reasons. Funny...I haven't heard back from him.

I just realized something. We shouldn't call it a failure in their logic, we should call it "moral relativism".
Their moral standards shift and slide based on who they're being applied to. Just like conservatives have always accused liberals of being.

13. I'm no pundit, but I've been bitching about that for years |
|
and, for the most part, Dems/Liberals/Progressives have 'taken the high road' and done nothing to stand up for themselves. Long before Chimpy was even a dimwitted blip on the radar screen, right wingers liked (for instance) to spout about law and order and yet embraced folks like North and Liddy as heroes. They demanded zero tolerance when the kid down the street got caught with a joint, but they insisted (implicitly if not explicitly) that they had the right to exempt themselves from any laws they didn't agree with. Rove and President Trainable simply capitalized on a trend that was already there.

They think their "logic" is beyond reproach, since "logic" for them amounts to applying the simple axiom of whether they already believe it to be true.
That same "logic" dictates that moral relativism is an unforgiveable sin committed by liberals.
By implicating rightwingers with moral relativism, we challenge their anti-liberal credentials and throw them at the mercy of their own vitriol!
I like it.

34. Of course they will, but it'll pay off in other ways |
|
TBers tend to be slow of mind and oriented to playing offense, so any time they have to spend making excuses for their behavior and explaining why it isn't liberal and they're still rightwingers is time they aren't using to plaster their True Beliefs all over the landscape.
I don't think there ever will be a way to turn the True Believers; the highest achievable goal, as far as I can tell, is to thwart their endeavors and blunt their impact on society.

This weekend at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Fest, Steve Earle led off the Songwriter's Circle with "F the FCC". Midway through he stopped an apologized for the language but said, "Who would you rather have your kids learn to swear from, me or Dick Cheney?"

Actually, I think Streisand uttering a similar phrase was showing more style and grace than Cheney. And Streisand was WAY out of line.
