What are the 10 best campaigns to send money to?
I am looking for a list of critical and very close campaigns where a few dollars might actually make a difference. Does anyone have this kind of list? Does anyone have any specific suggestions?

DAVID HAMMER
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - Democratic Rep. John Murtha, the decorated Marine veteran who favors withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq, will campaign against the congresswoman who labeled him a coward. Murtha will travel to Cincinnati on Saturday to campaign for Victoria Wulsin, the Democrat challenging Rep. Jean Schmidt. Last November, Schimdt was booed off the House floor when she delivered a message to Murtha, a Vietnam War veteran who was elected to Congress in 1974. "Cowards cut and run, Marines never do," she said.

6. Good point!
Obviously we are all being bombarded with requests for campaign contributions. It would be helpful to know where the stretched thin dollars would make the greatest difference. Thanks!

9. and more generally, how do you prioritize?
what's the best--tight races leaning Dem? or leaning R?
House or Senate?
blue, red, or purple/swing states?

IMO, any Senate seat is worth more than a House seat because we need to reverse the hellacious decline in the judiciary and block the loons GWB nominates.

i would tend to prefer races in swing states or red states.

and for some reason, the opportunity to replace an R incumbent or take an R-leaning tossup race appeals more than a D-leaning tossup race; maybe this is just an irrational and disproportionate perception of relative "value" of different races.

but i am far from a pro at this, so i would love some expert opinions on how to prioritize contributions.

13. I would be happy with a few good contribution tips
A political Warren Buffet to manage a contribution fund might be a good idea. I donate to the Party an I imagine that they sort of do that.

I would prefer to micromanage some of my micro contributions. I would be happy with a few good contribution tips.

7. If you want to send some money where it would really do good
send some to Diane Benson in Alaska and specify "Benson TV." She is a really wonderful candidate, and is rapdily gaining on (or may even have passed) that old fossil Don Young. We haven't gotten any help at all from the national people ... this has been strictly grassroots and very expensive in Alaska, where one has to fly to most of the towns (not much of a highway system here). There is presently a push on to get $100,000 for TV ads within the next two weeks, and any help at all would be deeply appreciated.

I should note that Don Young has started running negative ads against Diane, the first time I've heard him do so in the 34 years he's been in Congress - which seems to me like he's running scared. It's about time he had a real challenge.

Here's her website, and I can assure you, because I volunteer with her campaign and have talked to her and heard her speak several times, she is a fantastic candidate. Her son lost both his legs in Iraq last year ... she is antiwar and pro-vet, and a genuine progressive. You would love her.

8. John Russell, Florida's 5th District
Running against 2 term R- Ginny Brown-Waite.

We just did a Rasmussen poll, And these numbers came out the day BEFORE Foley broke. Generic (D) vs Generic (R) 42%-42%

R-Brown-Waite vs D-Russell GBW 45% - JR 36%

Negative rating GBW 37% JR 10%

Reasons for optimism. 70% of likely voters have never heard of JR. That will change when we put out our 6,000 new signs, and radio spots.

We've run a good, solid grassroots campaign. Won a 3 way primary by 10 points, 49%-39-12.

We had our first debate last Thursday, and John kicked her ass. We've had 2 joint candidate forums since then, and he's left her looking like a fool.

Check out www.johnrussellforcongress.com

We can feel the tide turning. It's going to boil down to name recognition, and GOTV. PDA is supposed to send out a nationwide e-mail blast for us this week-end.

10. At least your Republican will debate...
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 10:25 PM by Blue_In_AK
Right after Diane Benson won the primary here, she contacted Don Young's office and invited him to participate in three town-hall style debates, one each in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Juneau, before the election, and he flatly refused, like he's too good or something to submit himself to questions from ordinary Alaskans. What a jerk. He will appear in exactly ONE debate prior to election day. Diane will kick his ass.
