Forgive my paranoia but this scenario sprung to mind...
Edited on Wed Oct-11-06 09:16 PM by MessiahRp
Sure the Republicans and Diebold will allow for slight losses and the loss of Congress this November. It makes the elections seem like they're legitimate if Democrats win as predicted.

Then in 2007 we get hit with a massive terror attack.

Republicans can blame a cowardly Democratic congress, say Dems don't keep us safe and whip a feared frenzy into enough people to win back Congress and assure another Neocon Presidency in 2008.

Do I sound crazy?

1. In your scenario.....depending on when in 2007
if Conyers and the Dems get the investigations going...even an attack couldn't save the Repugs...the economic impact of the things that this administration has put in motion....

3. Don't go there!
If you want to worry, worry about four more years of the repugs driving us into the depths of hell. We have to step up and try to reclaim this country! If we can do that then there is at least a ray of hope. Peace on earth, Kim

4. I posted a very similar fear a couple weeks ago...
...and was basically ridiculed here for it. Go figure. But it seems perfectly plausible to me that it would actually benefit the GOP right now to let it go and then claim "WE TOLD YOU SO!" after Cheney follows through with his promise of making sure we're attacked again.

12. Ohh, ohh, me too, me too...

Don't get me wrong. Given the choice of losing in November or winning, I'll take winning every day.

But something about this Foley thing just doesn't feel right, and I don't mean I'm squeamish about the Politics of Self-Destruction. It was a Republican who turned him in to ABC; the same network that gave us Path to 9/11 a few weeks back. And the usual media whores who have no problem spinning for Bush are all lining up to take their shot at Foley/Hastert. Something feels off about this.

OK follow me here:

First, this will be many, many folk's first election with HAVA's new electronic voting machines. A Republican win would turn the now growing Paper Ballot movement into an unstoppable beast. But if there's a big Democratic win, the Election Reform movement will fade and these machines will be cemented in place for a whole generation.

Next, we have Iran. The troops are stretched so thin that a move on Iran will require a draft. Even with a new terror attack I think Bush and an All-Republican congress will have a hard time getting the kind of support they will need. But if a new conscription law were passed by a Democratic congress in response to a terror attack....

So perhaps it's been decided that this is the year to give one to the suckers. But they didn't want it to be seen that Iraq was the reason for the win. So, how to give the Democrats the win and yet not give them a mandate. Hmmm...

5. Not really. I hear the GOP pundits on the news say that if the Dems
take over the House, Nancy Pelosi will become speaker. They count on her over-reaching for the next 2 years and in 2008, the GOP will use that as a campaign issue to take the presidency as well as Congress.

9. they have a lot of nerve accusing anyone else of 'overreaching'
but they sure are good at projection.

anyway, their Fear Uncertainty Doubt All Terror All the Time show is very stale. time to show some results.

better off than you were 6 years ago? no, much worse.
safer? not at all.
economy better? no, in the toilet.
government working better? ask the citizens of New Orleans & the rest of the Gulf Coast.

the American people may have a short attention span, but we are not stupid.

11. Well...
"the American people may have a short attention span, but we are not stupid."

I thought that in 2004. People can be fed up with Bush but they don't seem to come out in droves to do a damn thing about it. And in areas where they do their votes are switched, not counted, thrown away or discouraged.

6. Crazy? well, it doesn't help that messiah is in your screen name
:)
just saying ....
As for your theory
Bush will still be president. He's the commander in chief.
Be a little hard not to blame him seems to me.
Republicans can blame whomever they want as far as I'm concerned. They won't take the blame themselves anyway even if they are still in power.

10. LOL Well the name is not religius in it's desired meaning...
One can be a savior of a certain situation without being the almight savior of all.

Back to the topic at hand, the problem with your thesis is that Bush has been the Commander in Chief and has deflected or avoided blame for every single thing since taking office.

Here we have a situation where a GOP member is a child predator and somehow that's the Democrats faults. Even if we lose Congress to a one or two vote majority they have the media in their pocket and will pin every single bit of it on us.

We're just not as good at force feeding Americans the truth the same way Republicans force feed bullshit to them on a daily basis.

Sheesh. Stop watching stupid slasher movies.

EDIT: DUers should NEVER again yell at the press for it's reporting of situations as a 'win' for republicans no matter what happens. DUers HAPPILY report situations the same way. The geniuses.
