The 655,000 Iraqis dead John's Hopkins study ... a little knowledge
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061011/ap_on_re_mi_ea/iraqi_death_toll

"They" want to kill this story big time .... over 1/2 million dead Iraqis kind of
ends *'s story about liberation.

From back in the day, I still remember a little about science and #s.

1. Author's Bio (posted by a DUer in another thread)

Dr. Gilbert M. Burnham is the co-director of the Center for Refugee and Disaster Response at Johns Hopkins. He has extensive experience in emergency preparedness and response, particularly in humanitarian needs assessment, program planning, and evaluation that address the needs of vulnerable populations, and the development and implementation of training programs. He also has extensive experience in the development and evaluation of community-based health program planning and implementation, health information system development, management and analysis, and health system analysis. He has worked with numerous humanitarian and health development programs for multilateral and non-governmental organizations, regional health departments, ministries of health (national and district level), and communities in sub-Saharan Africa, Asia, and Eastern Europe. A major current activity is the reconstruction of health services in Afghanistan.

2. John's Hopkins is a world class institution.

3. Lancet is a Professional Publication ... ALL PAPERS ARE PEER REVIEWED PRIOR TO
PUBLICATION.

4. It was a study that was funded by M.I.T. They don't fund crap. (most of the time)
They have thousands of people and groups looking for them to fund different research
and papers. I am sure that this study was well vetted before starting. It is the same
group that did the 100,000 dead in Iraq in 2004 ... if that had not been accurate then
no way would have M. I. T. have funded this study.

5. Statistical analysis and proper sampling are very powerful tools.
And very accurate .

1. But the pres said it was just a "guess"....and he just MUST be right.
As my neighbor says, how can such a warm, feeling, Christian family man ever do anything that wouldn't be in the best interest of our citizens????

3. I like when he questioned it's methodolgy, kinda

But he did not answer the ? or say why the study was wrong.
"I disagree with it." rough quote does not cut the mustard.

4. This information barely got air time.
Guess they can't work it in with all the opinions of the air crash in NY. It is now hours of "what could have happened".
