1. This Is Already Good...Wiretapping Foley?
"I won't know why the media focuses on gays in the Repugnican party"...then went on to use every wingnut talking point (minus the Clenis...surprise) and somehow Democrats are "using" gays. Welcome to the other side of the looking glass.

Hey Repugnicans, the reason this question is asked is based on the raging hypocricy in your immoral party. It's about decades of gay bashing and anti-gay legislation that now, in light of the Foley scandal, shows how insincere top leadership really was and has the "base" scrambling to square their latest embarassment.

8. I'm With You On That...
The fact that most sexual predators are heterosexual is the fact that speaks for itself, but this is not reality, this is politics...in specific Repugnican politics...that have spent years and tons of money on demonizing gays...from ignoring the AIDs epedemic in the 80's and then saying it's "god's revenge" to the on-going efforts to prevent gays from adopting (the hidden reason is pedophilia).

To me this isn't a scandal about sex, but about hypocrisy...about the aphrodisiac of power and how the greed manifested itself in so many conflicts. I thank goodness that Foley wasn't a Democrat since the gay bashing would have been even louder and could have given traction to the GOOP who squeezed enough gay-bashing votes in 2004 to swing some key elections. My hopes are this scandal and its hypocrisy will subdue that vote enough for Democrats to win the House and then we start a new day and dialogue.

On the very first day the Foley scandal broke, I posted here my concerns that this story would go from one of predation (not pedophilia...cause we still don't have confirmed "physical contact") to gay bashing. But then how else could the GOOP recover from this? Especially since this is the party of total irresponsibility that needs to find a scapegoat for all of their shortcommings...enter gay bashing.

6. Yesterday morning, someone brought up...
Keith's habeas corpus report, without mentioning Countdown specifically. I think Keith is driving the increasing talk about real issues.

11. this may sound a bit cynical... but
there have been more than a few posts on the DU about how we are forgetting about the death of Habeas Corpus, torture, Iraq etc. and focusing too much on Foley

Three reasons Foley won't go away:

3. It's about sex, it has an scandalous angle (i.e. cover-up)

2. It involves teenagers (i.e. kids) - whether or not DC's age of consent is 16 or not - in most people's mind anyone under 18 is still a minor

1. It's a subject that hits more families. This is the most important factor that keeps the Foley factor going as opposed to Iraq fatalities. More families have (under-18) kids at home than families have over-18 sons/daughters in Iraq. The Foley scandal is happening HERE, not over there and makes much more direct impact. It has a higher fear factor than the fear of Iraqis following us home if we withdraw.

habeas corpus, torture etc. do not impact directly on a families who think they have nothing to hide, therefore nothing to fear if their rights are stripped.

but preying on children...could happen to any family at any time. It really could be your neighbor, your priest, a teacher, a coach or your congressman..
