1. Google the company name
or the person 'offering you the position.' If it's a fraud you'll find numerous sites telling you it is.

2. Yep. I can practically guarantee
...that you'll be required to make a payment and pass bad checks through your account to get in on this "great deal". It's a scam.

3. Basically...
.. anyone sending spam to CareerBuilder or Monster account holders is pretty much suspect.

Real jobs don't need spam to get recruits.

5. That was my first impression but ...
... I did actually think at one time that Careerbuilder.com was a legit job hunting site.

Seems its been overrun by "work from home" scammers. Hmmpf.

8. I get ones very similar to this
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 07:51 AM by tenshi816
purporting to be from a Swedish company. An additional "general requirement" they list is that I have a bank account to "process" the "payments" through.

No legitimate company is going to ask anyone to funnel money through a personal bank account. I can't believe people fall for this, but evidently some do because the same scam just goes on and on with a few tweaks as the years pass.

Edited to add: I wonder what response you'd get if you replied "yes, I'd love to do this job, but I insist on ten days' time after I process each payment before I send the money to you in order to make sure that the payment has cleared." You'd never hear from them again.

Scamorama is an excellent site for info on these so-called 419 scams.
