It seems that Edwards might benefit from Mark Warner '08 withdrawal |
|
Ex-Governor Mark Warner decided not to seek the '08 presidential nomination and says he will devote his time to his family and electing Jim Webb in November. Should he run for the Senate in '08 against Warner or if Warner retires he would be probably the odds on favorite to win adding another Senate seat for Dems--let's hope he runs!
But looking at '08, I think his withdrawal from the race helps John Edwards. Edwards has actively been exploring a run and without fellow southerner Warner in the race he may be the front runner in South Carolina. At this point I'm not sure if Gen. Clark will run or not, he has been playing it closer to the vest than Edwards who is almost certain to run. However, if Edwards runs and wins in Iowa (the most recent Iowa poll on '08 has him leading at this point) and then wins in South Carolina he would be off to a very solid start.
It will be interesting to see how '08 pans out and who ultimately runs. The results of '06 will tell us alot, I think.

3. Yeah, but their tradition is to run multiples in the primaries. |
|
With Warner out of the race seems to me there are still upto 4 of them.

4. MOST Dems make their decision during the series of debates. Not like GOPs |
|
who choose who they are told to choose.
So, any speculation now would be about who has the debate chops and the policy positions to dominate the debates over the series.
