Server maintenance Friday, October 13th around Noon ET

We will be conducting some server maintenance around noon eastern tomorrow, Friday, October 13th. We expect this maintenance to be short and disruption to the site minimal, but there is always the possibility that something unexpected will go wrong.

4. do you know what the origin of that particular superstition is?

originally, the number 13 had to do with the lunar cycles (13 moons in the year)and was actually considered auspicious.

when the earth religions lost the holy wars--the catholic church turned everything upside down, and everything that was auspicious, holy or sacred to the earth religions became something evil and ugly.

11. Why did they retain so many of their holy days........

and turn them into christian holidays? Christmas, easter etc.? Really, I'm interested in knowing. Was it to appease the people who's lives they turned inside out? :shrug:

13. People wouldn't give up their traditions

They may have had their ass kicked, but they weren't giving up their holidays, it was easier for the church to coopt these days and over the generations substitute their own interpretations.

It's interesting to see the holidays and the names how they've changed and how there are still forgotten pagan traditions that have never quite gone away, even though people have forgotten why they're observed.
The twelve days of Christmas, is a substitute for the twelve days of the Yule celabration, even the names of the days.
Sunday= Suns day
Monday I don't know
Tuesday = Tiews Day A norse goddess
Wednesday = Woden's day Odin or woden comprable to Zeus
Thursday = Thor's day the Norse thundergod
Friday = Frie's day another Norse goddess
Saturday = Saturn's day one of the roman gods
etc etc etc Religions are like republicans they steal what they like and trash the rest.
