Poll question: if dems don't win this time despite what exit polls say, what will we do?
if this happens again, it would be the fourth election in a row where the final results were the exact opposite of the polls. people certainly would have to start scratching their heads, don't you think?

so, if the dems fail to take back both houses ofcongress despite what exit polls say, what will the american public do?

1. Take it out on the pollsters and the media who set us up with false hopes
Does anyone have a recipe for tar and feathers?

10. Whoever lied to us for financial gain
I believe that is the motive behind most polling.

17. Take it out on their major campaign contributors.
In my signature you can see the names of the major contributors to the Republican party.

I have heard Bush often talking about cutting off money to the people who finance the terrorists.

We need to stop doing business with the people who finance the errorists.

2. forewarned is forearmed. we cannot and will not let it happen again.
and fortunately there is a positive trend w/r/t states requiring audit trails. lots more work to do in this area, but fortunately the less close the polls are, the less likely a so-called "upset" will pass the smell test.

5. There are two types of people...
I for one am trapped in my job and have a family to support, and any step off the straight and narrow would immediately make us homeless just like the neofascists want. So honestly I would not be able to do much about it. But those few individuals who are still free or at least have nobody else to support, I would hope, would rise up and do something about a government that is working against them.

11. i think we're all in that situation.....
..we all have jobs and bills to pay. and that's why we're complacent....as long as we have the SUV in the driveway and the big screen TV in the living room, we're not gonna rock the boat and lose that stuff.

so, doesn't wanting to let someone else do the fighting for us make us just like the chickenhawk repukes that send others to do their fighting? unfortunately, none of us really want it bad enough to get off our asses ad fight for democracy. that's why nothing ever changes. i suspect nothing ever will.

19. it doesn't take many people to stand up. so just be ready to do it.
remember 2000 in Florida--a small pack of GOP staffers created the faux-riot to stop the counting.

step 1: GOTV and identify where the possible theft targets might be. who is the County Elections person in that area, who is the Sec of State, who is going to protest with you, what are the procedures for challenging results, who else in your area wants to ensure accurate results?
step 2: monitor the voting and counting procedures.
step 3: in case of dubious results, have your phone/email tree ready, have your press releases ready, have your signs and props ready, have your lawyers ready, have your petitions ready (or whatever else is needed to file a formal challenge), and keep the pressure up.

any other ideas?

15. related question
If the Dems win both chambers of Congress and a)still continue to support egregious Bush policies, while b) refusing to hold Bush accountable, what will the American Public do?

The answer is the same for both questions: jack shit.

22. The exit polls will say we lost no matter what we vote for. Duh!!
They've already had three elections to figure out how to cheat and the lapdog media ignores their most blatant fu@kups each time. This time the exit polls will project leads exactly as the machines are programmed to report. No problemo.

24. EXIT POLLS ARE ALWAYS CORRECT - TELL ME ONCE WHERE THEY'VE BEEN WRONG?
Edited on Thu Oct-12-06 10:46 PM by LaPera
In Florida the exit polls said Gore won...He indeed won...same in Ohio with Kerry...Republicans despise exit polling in the US and would love to do away with it...because they are so accurate...When BushCo wanted to overturn the election in the Ukraine two years ago, they sited the exit polls as the reason...but they don't want them used here in the US, again, because they are so fucking accurate and the stealing of elections through Diebold voting machines makes it glaringly obvious with exit polling...Not that the media would do their job and report the exit polls when reporting Diebold electronic voting machine results & descrpencies...They sure as hell didn't in Georgia in 2002! The media just reported how "shocked" they were with the results...exit polling (and even the media polling before hand) said everything was the opposite of what the Diebold voting machines reported, that the republican won the major races...it was voting machine fraud to the max!!!

Exit polls are never wrong, why wouldn't they be?

Just recently in Mexico, the exit polls said the liberal candidate won, but with Bushco helping the right-wing candidate the machines said the right-winger won. Exit polls have been used for years and years and always proved accurate.

27. Sorry, your statement is not correct
All poll results are stated in terms of ranges and probabilities. Generally, results are expressed with a 95% confidence level. That means that even when the methodology is sound and executed flawlessly the results will be wrong 1 time out of 20.
