We're 45 days from the World War II mark in Iraq...
World War II lasted 1347 days for the United States. We are 1302 days into the Iraq War starting from March 20, 2003.

In 45 days, we will have been fighting in Iraq longer than we fought in World War II. Longer than it took to defeat Germany and Japan fer cryin out loud!

Check my math:
http://www.timeanddate.com/date/duration.html

But I think I've figured that right.

lol.. anyhow, that's disgusting, ain't it? but if you argue that to a repub they'll say, so your point is it's BAD that we've lost less than 10% as many troops as WWII did??? Real American! (you can't win with a dolt)

5. Yeah, that's a big mark...
I'm glad you posted that, I've been wondering...So under a Democratic president we took down two superpowers of the time, and created a lasting peace. But where will we be in 45 days? 100 days???

11. If 9/11 is the "Pearl Harbor" date
then we are way deep beyond 1347 days.

12. Vietnam is a much better comparison.
The US was in Vietnam in force for something like eight years (1965-1973), and the US didn't completely pull out till '75.

Can't really compare WWII; the Germans and Japanese were both committed on several fronts, with long lines of supply, and by the time the US entered the European war in earnest the British had already dealt Germany serious blows in the Battle of Britain (causing serious attrition of the Luftwaffe) and at El Alamein, and Germany was further bogged down in long and costly seiges in Russia, particularly at Stalingrad (the Russian campaign cost Germany millions of casualties, you know). Big difference between fighting an occupying power such as Germany in an occupied country with a strong and organised resistance movement (as existed in France, the Netherlands, etc) and fighting guerilla forces on their home ground where there's a broad base of popular support--as happened in Vietnam; the US won every battle, and so achieved tactical victory over the VC, but lost the war in what can only be described as a resounding strategic defeat.

13. Yes, but remember Bush comparing himself to Roosevelt!
He chose the yard stick, not us.
