Rare October snowstorm hits western New York, topples power lines
The Associated Press
Published: October 13, 2006

BUFFALO, New York A rare early October snowstorm downed tree limbs and toppled power lines, leaving more than 155,000 customers without electricity.

Between 3 and 4 inches (8 and 10 centimeters) of snow fell Thursday night in most areas around Buffalo, with some spots expected to receive 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 centimeters) by Friday morning, officials said.

The heavy snowfall at this time of year is almost "unprecedented," said Tom Niziol, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.

"This is an extremely rare event for this early in the season," Niziol said.

1. Lake effect snow. In fact yesterday morning in Chicago, we could see
the "Michigan Mountains" building up on Lake Michigan. I'm sure that places like Grand Rapids, Saugatuck, and St. Joe all had some accumulation of snow yesterday.

It is a little early for the low temps, but it supposed to be in the low 60's here in Chicago by Monday. No big deal, you do get used it...

4. No shit!
Trees have been cracking and limbs have been breaking off since 10:00 last night. The trees are still loaded with leaves and the wet snow sticking to them and weighing them down is at a real danger point. Most schools in western New York are closed. The Buffalo area got about 12" and it's still coming down. We've got about 6" here (east of Buffalo) but it's a mess. I know the electricity is going to go out soon so I've warmed the house up as much as I can stand. There are an estimated 1,000,000 people in the Bufflao area withoutpower this morning.

It's TOO DAMNED EARLY FOR THIS SHIT!
