Maybe it's me, but it wouldn't it seem that it is a fairly easy and significant way to get even the most uninvolved people in the process by simply noting that, under Republican rule, food safety regulations have become so lax that we could literally be poisoned by tainted food?

Isn't that something that everyone could be concerned with?

Why is not one Democrat even mentioning this?

1. Life is dangerous, not parties' fault
This would just distract from the real issues like lack of health care, Iraq, etc. that are clearly bad policy. You can't blame everything on somebody without a permanent culture of blame.

2. Yeah, and why aren't they using
WAGES

the deficit

wealth concentration

the Iraq mess

runaway pollution

the Katrina mess

Cronyism

Corruption

Assault on civil liberties, rejection of law and treaty.

It seems all they're campaigning on is "We're not Repuglicans."

Some wonks within the Beltway are coordinating these bad campaigns. We need to get rid of them or we will have to be resigned to staying out of power as the country is destroyed.

3. Until you've sat in the Intensive Care Unit with a six year old dying
from something that looks like e-coli, apparently its "challenging" to wrap your head around concepts like "you should be able to eat a Happy Meal without fear."

Just because the Bush administration put the meat packing industry in charge of the USDA department that MONITORS THEM certainly doesn't mean that the ongoing outbreaks of "problems" (catastrophic and ongoing) are a PROBLEM.

:sarcasm:

FYI, my niece survived her bout with "Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome" and is one of four children in the world to have survived that particular variant. They still don't know what caused it, but it was awful. I've NEVER forgotten the three weeks she spent on the "last chance ventilator" in ICU -- NEVER. Its one of the reasons I've been damning this administration to hell ever since I found out that Every Single Scientist at the USDA quit in protest -- and NO ONE has done a damn thing about it.

Grrrrr.....

4. Two reasons...
1. A lot of Dems haven't really thought about/researched/formed a coherent position on the issue and wisely don't want to stick their necks out. It IS a complex issue with deep and far-reaching implications, after all, and has only hit the top third of the "public opinion radar" in the last few weeks. Cut 'em a break.

2. A lot of Dems take a shitload of money from the people responsible for the growing risks associated with America's dependency on industrially-produced food-like products, and wouldn't dream of biting the hands that feed them. Bad politics.

Thereya go. Either or both.

helpfully,
Bright

5. Because food safety isn't an issue.
Food contamination is actually down. This recent business is just media hype.
