We are done.
It doesn't matter how much food aid we ship to the victims of the next global natural disaster, or how diplomatic our next president is, or whether we come to regret what we have done in the name of law and order. Our laws permit kidnapping, torture and murder. Our laws deny access to the courts. The United States has ceded the moral high ground to its enemies.

We are done.

2. It makes me sad and very angry that this has happened
I never thought I would see this kind of government in the U.S. in my lifetime.

4. Assuming that dems can control one or both Houses of Congress,
this is TEMPORARY. I'm not especially glad of the status quo, but folks, this can be temporary with your vote -- and demanding a paper trail with your vote.

7. These laws can change if the Dems
take control and do the right thing. I do agree though that even if we go out of our way to restore our image it will probably take decades to undo the horrible reputation we have around the world.

8. Bush and his enablers are done.
Most Americans DO NOT recognize Bush's torture bill, nor will we EVER support torture, detainment and pre-emptive war. We will get this nightmare behind us, but I really think we need to forcibly remove the Bush administration from office before their term is up (via impeachment, investigations, forced resignations, etc.) in order to gain back our international credibility and moral ground anytime soon. I won't be satisfied until Bush, Cheney, Rumsefeld, Rice and Gonzales stand trial for war crimes.

13. I suspect the OP has begun to fight....so why fight him?:)
sometimes people are trying to make a point and some du'ers attack- I suspect you would agree more than disagree-overall. I think we should save the BU**SH** for BU**SH** himself and his regime of bull sh**ers.

12. Did he actually sign the
bill yet? There was discussion about it on DU a couple of days ago and it was uncertain. There has been nothing in the news that I have seen. One would think that he would have some bill signing ceremony, was he afraid of the criticism or did he not sign it?
