LOS ANGELES (Oct. 13) - Country singer Sara Evans on Thursday announced she was filing for divorce and quitting the "Dancing With the Stars" television competition.

Evans filed for divorce from Craig Schelske in Williamson County, Tenn., where she lives, according to a statement issued by Allen Brown, her representative at Sony BMG Music Entertainment.

"Recent events that shed light on the status of her marriage prompted Ms. Evans to make the filing," Brown said in the statement. He declined to elaborate. The couple were married in 1993 and have three children.

Evans decided she needed to leave the TV show "to give her family her full attention at this difficult time," Brown said.

1. I almost find it apt you have a pic of Walk the Line for this thread.

Johnny Cash, he wasn't perfect; nobody is, but he called bullshit when he saw bullshit, and he would've never supported Bush or his war, not after living through Viêtnam. I dunno how she could support the president or call herself a God-fearing Christian when her own government has become the greatest perveyor of violence in the world.

3. You got that right...
...I think the famous Johnny Cash "finger" photo probably expresses what he would have thought about Bush.

7. In his own words...
“I didn’t vote for Mr. Bush. Let’s just leave it at that.”

4. "Well, you wonder why I always dress in black..."
"Well, you wonder why I always dress in black,
Why you never see bright colors on my back,
And why does my appearance seem to have a somber tone.
Well, there's a reason for the things that I have on.

I wear the black for the poor and the beaten down,
Livin' in the hopeless, hungry side of town,
I wear it for the prisoner who has long paid for his crime,
But is there because he's a victim of the times.

I wear the black for those who never read,
Or listened to the words that Jesus said,
About the road to happiness through love and charity,
Why, you'd think He's talking straight to you and me.

Well, we're doin' mighty fine, I do suppose,
In our streak of lightnin' cars and fancy clothes,
But just so we're reminded of the ones who are held back,
Up front there ought 'a be a Man In Black.

I wear it for the sick and lonely old,
For the reckless ones whose bad trip left them cold,
I wear the black in mournin' for the lives that could have been,
Each week we lose a hundred fine young men.

And, I wear it for the thousands who have died,
Believen' that the Lord was on their side,
I wear it for another hundred thousand who have died,
Believen' that we all were on their side.

Well, there's things that never will be right I know,
And things need changin' everywhere you go,
But 'til we start to make a move to make a few things right,
You'll never see me wear a suit of white.

Ah, I'd love to wear a rainbow every day,
And tell the world that everything's OK,
But I'll try to carry off a little darkness on my back,
'Till things are brighter, I'm the Man In Black."

6. He's still wearing black
You would only have to change one line in that song, and it would still be as relevant today as it was when it was first released.

10. Weird
I just happen to be listening to a Greatest of Johnny Cash CD. It's the only country music I can stand. It's now on its last track - "Ghost Riders in the Sky."

I read once that he performed for Nixon, and Nixon wanted him to cover, "Okie from Muskogge," and "Welfare Cadillac," which were not songs he sang, but Nixon liked them because he thought they touched on typical republican values. He went with a selection of his more left leaning songs like, "Ballad of Ira Hayes" and "Man in Black."

5. Sara and Rep. congressional candidate splitting
She was Tom DeLay's darling and he's been e-mailing his lists getting people to vote for her, which is the ONLY way she stayed on the show. She maybe able to sing (never heard her) but she sure as hell can't dance. Even her C/W fan base wasn't big enough to sustain her.

http://thinkprogress.org/2006/09/06/delay-dancing

Ole Tommy said she represented the best of true American Family Values. He was really worried that Jerry Springer, who is one of the contestants would beat her. Jerry is actually building a real fan base on the show. Not for his dancing, but people are finding out that liberal Jerry is a very nice guy.

Just this past Monday Sara went on Hannity to whine that the judges were picking on her and she was begging viewers to vote for her.

Rumor is their are some real messy stories coming about her husband, who is also supported by Tommy, Hannity and Pat Robertson.

Just a sample of googling Craig Schelske:

16. She's got about half of Martina McBride's talent...
...and Martina...unfortunately...is another person in the "Hannity Inner Circle."

Sara did a nice version of Bruce Hornsby's "Every Little Kiss" on one of her albums, but her overall catalog is generic, modern, female C&W pop fluff. Cartoony, cowboy hat, pickup truck kind of stuff with no grit.

Do you get to put that down as "time already served" when you're trying to get out of Purgatory?

15. LOTS of dirt in the divorce filing.
Pornography, adultery, verbal and emotional abuse. I kinda wish the guy had won his campaign now. It would have been another blight on the GOP.

18. The one that gets me is

Consuming alcoholic beverages to excess while in the presence of the wife Sara Evans Schelske OR of the parties' minor children.

Sure the parenting is an issue for the court to consider but drinking and being intoxicated infront of your spouse is now considered to be in part grounds for divorce? WTF?

19. That does seem a bit puritanical.
Especially considering another one of her complaints is how angry he got when she wanted to bring in the "sodomite" costume designer from DWTS.

20. This is likely an attestment statement...
Because she has chosen to sue for cause in the divorce, the grounds for the divorce need to be backed up with statements declaring what constitutes the attested grounds of "inappropriate marital conduct". Most likely, this is Tennessee's clause to cover emotional and mental cruelty as grounds and I wouldn't be surprised if the drinking behavior will be shown to have exacerbated those behaviors.

Also, this statement substantiates that the wife personally witnessed his drinking behavior in front of the kids. This will likely also help her with seeking primary custody as well.
