What happened to Riverbend?
Edited on Fri Oct-13-06 02:01 PM by Egnever
I have watched her blog on and off since this war started. She has been an amazing source for an insider look at what has been going on in Iraq throughout. I have seen her go a few weeks without posting before but it has now been two months since her last post.

I hope she has not been injured she is an amazing writer and has always made it so much easier to get the reality behind the spin.

I hate this war.

If you haven't read her blog or don't know who I am talking about.

1. I wonder, too
Her blog was last updated 8-5. It's been over two months, now. I hope that she and her family are safe, but the situation in Iraq seems to get worse every day. Many of us here have followed her blog, so if somebody knows, maybe they'll post it for us.

2. With all the recent reports on the death squads there
I have been watching her site to get an idea of whats really going on. I hope she was not one of the targets.

UPDATE--Riverbend of Baghdad Burning

My source contacted the publisher of Baghdad Burning--the Feminist Press. They are concerned because they have had no communication with River. The publisher's spokesperson confirmed that this is the longest lapse in communication with Riverbend that the publisher has experienced.

My source will be sending an email (within the next few days) to someone at the Feminist Press who will forward it onto their contact email for River....Hopefully, River will surface soon and be in contact...that is the best case scenario.

days ago...
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=364&topic_id=2362583#2362650
which has a comment from her publisher, saying she often goes to Northern Iraq for spells and is incommunicado. So.. no information...bad or good.

11. Maybe She's Working Her Way Out
I've also been reading her blog since the start of the Gulf Oil II invasion and its heartbreaking when you read of how their hope for a better future has turned into a tragedy. Her last post sounded like she had witnessed a close friend who was killed and I could sense she felt in peril as well. I would imagine this is especially the case since her stories have been adapted for a play and has gotten a publicity that might have ruffled the wrong feathers.

In the past she's vanished for months at a time and has proven to be a survivor. I check the blog at least once a week and hope soon to hear she's surfaced...hopefully out of Iraq and the hell she's had to endure for the last 3 years. While I'd miss her eyewitness accounts of how things really are for the people of Iraq, her safety is more important.
