Removing gender from the Foley scandal -- and the camping trip.
Last night on MSNBC, Joe Scarborough, the former GOP Congressman from Georgia, talked about the camping trip and Kolbe, before the stories of today. He said simply: What if, as a Congressman, I had taken two teenage female pages on a camping trip?

I wish we could remove gender from this scandal, and the press could make the point Scarborough made. The same kind of behavior could have been exhibited by Congressmen with female pages: sending them suggestive (and worse) e-mails; arriving, drunk, at their dorm; being alone in a hotel room with them, etc. And the behavior would have been, in, according to one article, Bush's favorite word these days: unacceptable.

1. Joe surprises me sometimes.
He's absolutely right on this point. The gender of the pages shouldn't matter. It's the age and power issues that matter.

3. This is actually a really good point
It's the power position and the sick behavior that is the problem

4. Would it have been okay if Foley had take some girls camping instead?
Just wondering.

7. I completely agree.
It appalls me to see the 'gay-mania' that's infected even DU. Sure. "We all know" that it's not about homosexualtiy. Riight. It's sheer coincidence that discussions of outing gay Repukes and discussions of Foley's sexual predation intermingle. Uh-huh. :eyes:

Bullshit. :grr:

The gender focus is abominable, imho. There isn't the slightest difference between sexual predation of males on minor males, males on minor females, females on minor males, or females on minor females. It's about sexual predation, NOT sexual orientation!
