OK, since N.Korea now has nukes, why not make friends with them instead
of enemies and give them no reason to use the nukes?

2. butt butt, you doan unnerstand!
NK serves bush's scheme du jour, whatever the hell that might be - you can be certain it cost some poor hapless innocents spmewhere something! and that's the bush motif, writ plain.....humanity, to the bushviks, is to be measured by the gap between the pig and the non pig, and the biggah the gap the bettah! NK serves to demonise contemplation, thinking TOO MUCH.....to create an anvil for the ole righteous hammer, and that satisfies the precious bushevik juices which otherwise are left bereft.....
in plain english, NK gives bush another excuse to be a goof and continue to hog all the good things for the goofery - liberalism is anything that defies the idea.
this lesson cost 5k dollars. pay at the door.....

4. ...maybe because Kim's a crazy, repressive asshole?

We should certainly talk to them. We should even offer humanitarian assistance. But, I wouldn't want to consider NK a "friend."

Your question reminds of that stupid Zucker-produced video showing Madeline Albright drinking champagne with Kim...

5. Never negotiate out of fear,
but never fear to negotiate.

I once heard a wise man say that.
