Internet Gambling Act pissing off young conservatives.
Edited on Sat Oct-14-06 07:50 AM by Bushwick Bill
I know a lot of people have their stories from the street about how the tide is turning or whatever. I don't know if I believe them or if any of it translates into victory this November. But, I can tell you this. There a lot of young males in this country plopping down sports bets and playing poker online. Many of my friends fall into that category and they also lean to the right. For five years, I have tried to tell them the war on terror is a scam, there are a lot of unanswered questions about 9/11, the right doesn't care if all industrial jobs leave the country, PNAC plans have been in the works for years, etc., etc.

For the most part, I have been ignored. That was, until this week. You see, the online books are freezing their accounts and not taking wagers. These guys are pissed. They now know who Bill Frist is and I have explained to them about his cat-killing exploits. They are even more appalled that such a hypocrite could take the moral high ground in passing this legislation. This was the last straw for them. They were already getting a little tired of the religious hypocrisy. But, take away a man's poker and his sports bets, and you have crossed the line. Congratulations, Frist and Co., you have lost the support of at least ten young Republicans that I know.

As one of these meatheads said:

"I can legally download video of a girl getting f----- and then puked on, but i cant legally place $10 of my hard earned after tax dollars on virginia tech to beat boston college by more than 2 and a half f---ing points."

Anyway, there is one positive report I can contribute from the street. Who knew anti-gaming legislation could help us in this crucial month before the elections? Here's to you, cat-killer! :toast:

2. They Want You To Bet On Their Game....The Stock Market
You probably have a better chance of getting a fair deal at a Las Vegas blackjack pit than you do at your local brokerage house. The difference? When you gamble, you gamble for yourself...on the stock market your money is being gambled by someone else.

A couple years ago I heard a neat debate pot smokers and gamblers. Both get a rush from what they do, it's their money/body and should have the right to do with it as they see fit and the major reason its restricted is to enrich someone elses pocket and its not looking after anyone's real welfare.

I'm not a gambler, but if someone wants to play, as long as its THEIR money and not someone elses, isn't that the essence of what free enterprise is all about?

What are the odds these guys probably don't vote at all...they'd rather watch SportsCenter than a news blog and voting is an inconvenience.

As we saw from the Abramoff fiasco, gambling is another right wing money pit...it's an issue they bat around...first passing relaxed gaming laws (the lottery in this state was set up by Repugnicans) and then pander to the other side of the street claiming how they'll clean up the "immoral" element of things.

Bottom line...gambling interests such as the race tracks and lotteries see online gaming as a threat to their monopolies. The large casinos want you to throw your money away on their boat and not online. A lot of this has to do with special interests who stand to loose big money rather than any concern about "morality".

5. Oh Happy Scheudenfreude....
That these, most entrenched, clueless, free-marketeers, should finally get their dander up over some online gaming...
